Wesley Leon Holland, 80, of Grant (former longtime Lemoyne resident), passed away on April 8, 2024, at his home.

Wes was born on April 24, 1943, to Wesley Lafayette Holland and Della Maxine Shaffer in Denver, CO. Wesley attended high school in Denver and then entered the US Army shortly after. He later married Maria Trujillo, and together they adopted a son, Steven Holland. Later on, they also adopted their granddaughter, Nichole Ross.

The family made their home in Denver, CO, where Wes worked in telecommunications. In 1974, they relocated to a house they built north of Lake McConaughy.

Wes was a skilled builder and a tinkerer. He was also a father figure, a loving husband, and a valued member of his community. He served as a charter member of the Keystone Lemoyne Fire and Rescue. He served the organization from 1978 to 1990, four of those years as treasurer. He also served on the Ogallala Rural Fire District board for 14 years. Both organizations will miss his valuable experience.

Wes was also a longtime member of the Martin Bay Community Church, where he served on the board for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maria Holland; son, Steven Holland; and three siblings. He is survived by his granddaughter, Nichole Ross and her husband Benjamin Ross of Grant; his brother, Larry Holland and his wife Diane Holland of Denver, CO; and many other relatives and friends.

Michael David Hartsough, 46, of Ogallala, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Born on October 16, 1977, in Denver, Colorado, to Rex J. and Mary Ann (King) Hartsough, Michael grew up in the Denver area, embracing Colorado's natural beauty, a passion that defined his life.

In 2008, Michael made Ogallala his home, where he continued to nurture his deep connection with the outdoors. Whether he was mowing lawns, assisting an electrician, or immersing himself in landscaping projects, Michael found joy in spending every minute he could outdoors. His love for nature was paralleled by his fondness for animals. Michael's gentle spirit made him an animal magnet. He was also a person who respected and cared deeply for people from all walks of life, often extending kindness and humor in unexpected ways.

Michael's garden was his sanctuary, where he could spend entire days nurturing the plants and observing the different bugs and animals, typically capturing the beauty through the camera lens. Michael was also an avid fisherman in earlier years.

Michael's legacy of kindness, laughter, and an unwavering love for the natural world leaves an indelible mark on those who knew him.

Michael is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents. Survivors include his parents, Rex (Mary Ann) Hartsough; sisters, Michelle Hartsough of Littleton, CO, and Kristina Kleewein of Roxborough, CO; niece, Caden Kleewein; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Berenice Maxine Caress, age 93,&nbsp;departed&nbsp;peacefully on Sunday, April 7,&nbsp;2024,&nbsp;at the Columbine Manor in Salida, CO. Berenice was born in Dundy County, Nebraska on January 11,&nbsp;1931,&nbsp;to William and Nora Reiman. Berenice married DeWayne “Shad” Caress in May of 1952.&nbsp;Berenice and Shad&nbsp;had three&nbsp;children:&nbsp;Robert, Roxi and Robin.&nbsp;The Family&nbsp;resided&nbsp;for many years in Benkelman, NE before moving to Leadville, CO where Berenice accepted a job with Lake County School District as an&nbsp;Elementary&nbsp;School&nbsp;Teacher. The couple returned to Stratton, NE during their retirement years due to Shad’s health.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Berenice took pride in her educational accomplishments having earned her&nbsp;Bachelor’s in Education&nbsp;from Kearney State College and her&nbsp;Master’s in Education&nbsp;from Adams State College.&nbsp;She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for many years.&nbsp;Berenice was a devout Catholic who dedicated her free time to&nbsp;The Third Order of&nbsp;Franciscans&nbsp;and The&nbsp;Altar and Rosary Society. Berenice could always be found with a book in her&nbsp;hand,&nbsp;and&nbsp;spent many enjoyable hours at the library.&nbsp;She had a love for animals,&nbsp;and especially enjoyed the companionship of her dog Skeeter.&nbsp;Spending time with her family was one of her greatest passions and enjoyments.&nbsp;Her love for people was&nbsp;evident&nbsp;in the way she would always offer her support and prayers for any in need. Berenice was thoughtful,&nbsp;generous,&nbsp;and kind to&nbsp;anyone who&nbsp;had the pleasure of&nbsp;crossing paths with her.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Berenice is survived by two of her children, Robert “Bob” Caress (Gloria) and Roxi Garrett (Mike), seven grandchildren,&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;great-grandchildren,&nbsp;nieces,&nbsp;and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Shad, her parents, her son Robin “Pat”,&nbsp;grandchildren – Jayme and Shawn, and eight siblings.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marilyn’s loves in life were her late husband Donald of 56 years, family, cattle, cards, and her friends. She especially loved her time watching her grandkids in their activities and her time spent traveling.&nbsp;

Jeremy Andrew Malone, 45, of North Platte passed away April 7, 2024, at his home. Jeremy was born June 14, 1978 to Joe Dale and Vickie Conrady Malone at Ogallala.

He graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1996. He then attended Central Community College at Hastings. &nbsp;Jeremy was always a hard worker and enjoyed working with his hands. He worked at Lowe’s and held various construction jobs while residing in Reno &amp; Cheyenne. &nbsp;He settled in North Platte and with the guidance of Jayne Weaver he did well. &nbsp;He moved from Assisted Living to his own apartment. He loved it there. He thrived working at Denny's for several years; before and after Covid. He was very proud of his accomplishments. Although he was a quiet man who kept to himself, his neighbors loved him. He did receive support at home from AmanaCare, which was greatly appreciated.

He enjoyed basketball, bowling, camping and fishing and helping with the derby cars.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe; grandparents, Jack and Iona Malone, Dorothy Conrady and James and Gladys Conrady; uncle, Jack Malone, Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Vickie; brother, Troy; twin sisters, Megan (Beau) Johnson and Jamie Malone; nephews and nieces, Trent (Isabel Mays) Malone, Addison Malone, Landon Dillenburg, Aubree Malone, Levi Johnson, Sadie Johnson and Emery Malone; aunts and uncles, Carol (Ed) Baker, Judy (Gary) Cross, Bonnie White, and Pam Neal; several cousins.

Jeremy Andrew Malone (1978-2024)

Marla Kay Weber, 68, died Tuesday, April 8, 2024 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska. Marla was born on July 21, 1955, in Alliance, Nebraska to Harvey and Delores Hampton. The family moved around western Nebraska throughout Marla’s childhood, eventually settling in the Scottsbluff/Gering area. Marla graduated from Gering High School.

On October 5, 1974, Marla married Charles Chester (Charlie) Weber of Cozad, Nebraska. To this union three children were born. They started their family in western Nebraska for a couple of years before returning to Cozad to help with the Weber family farm. Marla stayed home to raise the kids, help on the farm and provided childcare for some to the neighborhood kids. She later went to nursing school, first earning her LPN degree and then her RN degree. Marla worked at the Cozad Community Hospital for twenty years and then at nursing and assisted living facilities in central Nebraska. She retired in 2021.

Marla was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed reading, planting flowers, working as a nurse and being a grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents, Harvey Hampton, Delores, and Chester Hampton; her two youngest brothers, Raymond and Dawain Hampton; father and mother-in-law, Chester and Marjorie Weber; and sister-in-law, Ronda Weber.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie; siblings Carlie (Crystal) Hampton, Brenda (Randy) Hoff, and Rodney (Dixie) Hampton; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Gary) Kumke; brother-in-law, Carroll Weber, her children, Sonya Ann (Jeff) Buskirk of Kearney, Heather Dee Weber of Kearney, and William Chester (Cassondra) Weber of Omaha; and seven grandchildren, AnnaRose Marie Wilson, Dane Charles Buskirk, Grace Ann Weber, Izabella (Bella) Kaydee Buskirk, Joy Renae Bell, Hope Christine Bell, and Elijah David Killion; and two step-grandsons, Anthony and Chris Oberlin; and many nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Marla Kay Weber (1955-2024)

&nbsp; Melody May Pierce, age 77 passed away peacefully at her home in Stratton, Nebraska, on April 7, 2024. Melody was born on March 18, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to Stormy Elizabeth Wilson and Vernon Barrett. &nbsp;Melody grew up moving between Colorado, Ohio, Oregon and Washington with her siblings Sidney, Melinda, Melissa and Rodney.&nbsp;

In 1963, Melody met the love of her life Stanley "Bud" Pierce at the diner she was working at. Bud came in with a friend and ordered one root beer with two straws, Melody took pity on them and used her tips to buy a second, which is how their love story began. 

&nbsp;On October 23, 1965 Melody and Bud pierce were married in Columbus, Ohio. &nbsp;Melody and Stanley went on to have four children: Nena, Mike, Daniel and Jason.&nbsp;

Throughout her life Melody had several careers including being a home health care aid, cook and factory worker. &nbsp;Melody graduated from beautician school and spent several years working in the beauty industry. &nbsp;Her favorite career was working at the senior center because she enjoyed talking to the residents and learning their histories. 

&nbsp;Later in her life, Melody retired and spent her time visiting her grandchildren, working on puzzles and creating wonderful pieces of crochet and quilts. &nbsp;

She is survived by her loving husband Stanley Pierce, siblings Melissa Evans and Melinda Howell, her children Nena Roy (Duane), Mike Pierce (Trina) and Daniel Pierce (Rachel), her grandchildren Jonathan, Olivia, Joseph, Chloe, Isabel, Jade, Hayley, Alyssa, Joslyn, Taylor, Abby, DJ, Symphony and great-grandchildren, Skielyn and Kanyon. 

&nbsp;She rejoins her mother, Stormy Powell, father, Vernon Barrett, stepfather Charles Powell, siblings Sidney and Rodney, son Jason, granddaughter, Mary and great-grandson Oliver in eternal peace.&nbsp;

Melody May Pierce will be remembered as a deeply caring person, a loving wife, a mother, a grandmother and sister. &nbsp;Those who loved Melody will remember her kindness, her laughter and her smile.

He grew up in the Sutherland - Ogallala area where the family raised sugar beets. &nbsp;He graduated from Ogallala High School. &nbsp;He enlisted in the Army in December of 1958 and served in Berlin, Germany. &nbsp;After being discharged from duty, he returned to Ogallala and worked at the Chevrolet Garage. &nbsp;

Harold married Catherine (Cassie) Fuller, daughter of Herbert and Rose Dale Fuller on August 22, 1963 at St. Lukes Catholic Church in Ogallala. &nbsp;To this union 3 children, Gregory, Kelly, and Theodore, were born. &nbsp;Harold attended several colleges, receiving several degrees including one in criminal justice. &nbsp;He served as a Reserve Deputy in Keith County for 10 years. &nbsp;The family moved to Arizona and returned to Nebraska settling in North Platte. &nbsp;He enjoyed fishing, “memory trips” and the family.

Survivors include wife Cassie, sons Gregory and Theodore (Kristy) and daughter Kelly; brother Dave (Beth) of Omaha; sister, Suzanne (Lonney) Nielsen, Minden; brothers-in-law, James (Barbara), Lincoln, Arnold (Barbara), Tucson, Arizona, Charles (Carole), Fort Morgan, Colorado; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; along with many cousins and close neighborhood friends and special friends.

Harold Frederick Reitz (1940-2023)

Danny L McMillin, 83, of Lemoyne, passed away on March 11, 2024, at his home.

Danny was born on November 27, 1940, to LeAnne Annabelle Price McMillin. He graduated from Golden High School with a class of 1959.

Danny entered the US Navy in 1959. Danny served until 1961, receiving his Honorable Discharge after achieving the rank of Yeoman Third Class.

Danny would eventually marry; he and Roberta McMillin were blessed with two sons, Scott and Danny.

Following his tenure in the Navy, Danny embarked on a 15-year engineering career with Coors, contributing significantly to the design of the stackable aluminum can. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish an international enterprise, specializing in the design and construction of can manufacturing facilities for breweries worldwide. Danny's professional journey took him to numerous countries, including China, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand, allowing him to travel more extensively than many ever have the opportunity to do. At the age of 45, Danny chose to retire.

An adventurous spirit, Danny once retrieved a boat from Lake Dillon in Colorado and navigated it all the way to Cabo San Lucas to participate in a Marlin fishing tournament. His prowess earned him first place, a moment celebrated on ESPN as he received his prize. Retirement afforded Danny the leisure to enjoy extended stays in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. However, his longstanding connection with Lake McConaughy, dating back to the late 1970s, culminated in his decision to settle there permanently in 2013, following his wife Gerry's passing. Over the years, he earned seven Master Angler awards, a testament to his passion for fishing and the outdoors.

Danny was known for his generosity and readiness to assist those in need. He took immense pride in his granddaughter, often sharing stories about her with great enthusiasm. His deep connections with friends and the community at Lake McConaughy were a source of joy and fulfillment. Danny's absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His love for socializing, coupled with his appreciation for the Lake McConaughy lifestyle, were integral parts of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gerry McMillin.

Survivors include his sons, Scott McMillin and Danny D. McMillin, stepsons Joey Cunningham and Jerry Cunningham, along with their spouses Dawn, Amanda, and JC, granddaughter Lilly McMillin, and many other relatives and friends.

Danny McMillin (1940-2024)

Charles Leon Epperson, age 90, a longtime Lemoyne resident, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Charles was born on May 6, 1933, in Pilot Point, Texas. His parents, Roy and Leva Epperson, raised him in the small farming community of Windom, TX, where he graduated high school.

Charlie worked for the American division of Dow Chemical in the oil industry, starting at the bottom washing trucks at the age of 16 and ultimately retiring as a regional executive.

Charlie married Mozelle (Moore) in Snyder, TX in 1951. This union was blessed with two children, Lydia and Doug. The family moved to El Tigre, Venezuela in 1956 due to Charlie's career, and then to Vernal, UT where they made their home. Charlie and Mozelle divorced in 1967.

In 1970, Charlie met Winifred Schooley, while both were involved in stock car racing. They married on August 8, 1970. This union was blessed with two children, Leslie and Russ. The family made Denver, CO their home until Charlie's retirement. In 1984, the family moved to Lewellen, NE and in 1990, Charlie and Winnie bought the Lewellen Lumber company. They successfully ran the business until age and failing health forced them to retire in 2016.

Charlie was a master at many things. He had a life-long passion for gardening. He spent his life as an outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, hiking, white water rafting, and arrowhead hunting. He played semi-pro baseball as a young man. He was an avid golfer. Charlie and Winnie were classic car collectors and enjoyed touring car shows. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Winnie, in 2017.

Survivors include four children, Lydia (David) Gardner of Washington, Doug (Carrie) Epperson of Grand Junction, CO, Leslie (Dennis) Miyamoto of McCook, and Russ Epperson of Lemoyne; grandchildren, Shoen, Brian, Jaron, Devin and Wyatt Gardner, Amy and Quinn Hammond, Michael Epperson, Christian and Chase Miyamoto; along with many great-grandchildren and friends.

A note to my mom... It is still so unbelievable to me that I am struggling for words to do your life justice such a short time after losing Dad. I am so shocked that I can't just pick up the phone to ask you what you'd like me to say. But I do know this...life will never be the same without you. We had such a tendency to butt heads and drive each other to near insanity, but I always knew that you were my biggest cheerleader. You gave me my love of nature, animals and children. You taught me to work hard for whatever I wanted and above all you taught me never to give up. I will miss you. I will miss your crooked smile, the bratty way you shrugged your shoulders when you didn't like what I had to say, and I will miss your amazing sense of humor. Most of all, I'll just miss knowing that you're there. The kids and I will make sure Chloe and the cats are loved and fed. Hug Dad and Tony for me please...I love you, Go rest now.

Cheryl (Cheri) L Newkirk, age 79 of Hershey, passed away in her home April 4th, 2024.&nbsp; Cheri was born in Imperial, Nebraska September 14th, 1944 to Charles and Eula Briggs and was raised near Lamar and Grant alongside her siblings, Billie and Dan.

Not long after graduating from high school, Cheri met Jerry and they were wed just 10 days later. That union lasted more than 61 years. They settled into the Newkirk ranch where they worked alongside Jerry's parents and raised their two children Tony and Cyndi. Jerry and Cheri moved around a few times trying to make a better life for their family, but eventually ended back in Lewellen until their children graduated.&nbsp; In 1985 they moved to Imperial to farm and during their time there, Cheri learned to become an amazing florist. She also worked at the county courthouse for quite some time. In their retirement years, Jerry and Cheri moved to their home by Hershey to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. In those last years Cheri could most likely be found playing in her garden, caring for Jerry or bathing dogs at her daughter's grooming shop. She absolutely loved spoiling the dogs.

Cheri is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Eula; brother Dan; husband Jerry; son Tony; grandchildren Corey and Casey; great grandson Esiah.

Cheri is survived by her sister Billie; daughter Cyndi; grandchildren Jazmin, Jon, Jackson, Joey, Amelia and Seaira; great grandchildren Ethan, Emelio, Javier, Ki'auna, Dominik, Aiyana and Skylynn; along with many other family members and friends. Cheri will be missed.&nbsp;

Lucille, age 99, passed away on April 4th, 2024, at Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan, Wyoming, surrounded by her family.

Lucille was born August 27, 1924, in Broken Bow, Nebraska to Aloysius &amp; Elizabeth Gunther. She came from a family of&nbsp;11&nbsp;brothers&nbsp;&amp; 1 sister.

When she was 24, Lucille met Jess Swick Jr at a country dance, and he became the love of her life. They were married on May 27, 1948, at the St Joseph Catholic Church. Then they moved to a small farm near Gates, Nebraska.&nbsp;

They went on to have 8 children, James (Wanda), Thomas (Brenda), Charles (Debra), Anna (William), Sharon (Phil), Jess, William, and Chancy (Teresa); 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren and their extended families. &nbsp;

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers &amp; sisters. She is survived by all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many extended families.

Lucille enjoyed reading,&nbsp;embroidery, &amp;&nbsp;cross-stitching&nbsp;gifts for her family &amp; friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on April 12, 2024, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow, Nebraska with Father Jim Hunt officiating. &nbsp;The burial will be in the Gates Cemetery. &nbsp;Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. Ralph E. Anderson, 87, of North Platte, passed away April 5, 2024 at Great Plains Health. &nbsp;He was born April 1, 1937 to Harry and Geneva (Larue) Anderson in his paternal grandparent’s home in Gothenburg.

Ralph attended rural schools, mainly in the Hayes Center area and then graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1954. &nbsp;He married Mary Jane Wendeborn on June 18, 1961 in North Platte. &nbsp;He worked at various ranches in Nebraska and Colorado until 1966. &nbsp;Ralph then went to work for State Department of Roads while Interstate 80 was being built. &nbsp;Following the completion of the interstate, he worked for Nebraska Public Power District for seven years. Ralph and Mary Jane moved to Phoenix and later to Congress, Arizona where he was employed by Speedie Corporation from 1981-2003 at which time he retired. &nbsp;The couple moved back to North Platte in October 2013 because of Mary Jane’s health.

Edna Merrell peacefully passed away at the North Platte Care Center on April 6, 2024.

Edna, the daughter of Allen and Dorothy Francis, was born November 24, 1937, at Big Springs, NE, where she grew up and attended school. &nbsp;Edna then began waitressing in Big Springs and Ogallala.

On June 6, 1961, Edna married Robert "Bob" Merrell in Julesburg, CO. &nbsp;They spent the first year living in Big Springs then moved to Colorado, living in Sterling and other places until settling in Nunn. &nbsp;They owned a shoe shop in the town of Eaton and Edna worked at the A&amp;W there so they made many trips between Nunn and Eaton. &nbsp;After Bob died, Edna moved to North Platte to be closer to her family.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Neva Francis; daughter, Rotelle Merrell; and great-granddaughter, Misty.

Survivors include her children, Robert Merrell of North Platte, Charles Merrell (Esther) of Papillion, Roberta Murphy (Robert) of Cozad and Robecca Wolever of Greeley, CO; her sister, Mary Bowker (Richard) of North Platte; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and other family.

Edna Merrell (1937-2024)

Dorothy&nbsp;Smith of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away December 26, 2023, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 96.

Dorothy was born April 4, 1927, to Edward and Josephine Hopkins in Chadron where she grew up. &nbsp;After graduating from Chadron High School, Dorothy held several different jobs, her favorite was as a bookkeeper at a Chadron Car Dealership.&nbsp; On August 17, 1947, Dorothy married Gene Smith in Chadron. &nbsp;They made their home on a farm in the Deadhorse Community where they raised their five children: Alan, Carol, David, Ruth and Daniel. &nbsp;In 1970 the family left the farm and moved to Bridgeport, then to North Platte six years later with Gene's job. &nbsp;Dorothy worked at Herberger's Department Store until retiring.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a member of Diamond K Kiwanis Club, the Extension Club, and was a faithful member of the Water Lilies swimming group at the North Platte Rec Center for many years. She also spent many hours volunteering at the Lincoln County Historical Museum.&nbsp;

Dorothy loved family get-togethers and playing games with family and friends. She could always find the good in anyone, and something positive in every situation.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her parents, Edward and Josephine Hopkins.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Alan (Joan) Smith of Kingwood, TX, Carol (Jerry) Young of Columbia, MO, David (Jan) Smith of McCook, Ruth (Kevin) Uhrich of North Platte and Daniel (Mary Ann) Smith of Fulshear, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jo Murner, age 93 of Indianola, passed away at the Community Hospital of McCook on April 2, 2024. She was bon in Mott, North Dakota on September 14, 1930, to Gale and Cora (Oliene) Rounds. &nbsp;She and the family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where Jo graduated from Rapid City High School.

On March 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Murner in Rapid City. &nbsp;To this union four children were born: William, David, Lorri, and Kimmie. Bill preceded her in death on March 18, 2016.

&nbsp;Jo and William owned a GM dealership in Custer, where Jo helped by keeping the books. &nbsp;The couple traveled to Hawaii and all over the United States. &nbsp;They would winter in either TX or AZ. &nbsp;In February of 2018, Jo moved to Indianola to be close to family. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jo was an avid bird watcher and loved feeding them. &nbsp;She enjoyed the Casino’s, crocheting, making quilts and Christmas Stockings. In her younger years she and Bill would go to square dances. She loved being around family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents Gale and Cora; and a brother, Gerald Rounds.

Jo is survived by her two sons, William and wife Patricia of Custer, SD, David, and wife Colette &nbsp;of Rapid City, two daughters, Lorri and husband Ernie Schleuning of Rapid City, SD, Kimmie and husband Brent May of Indianola, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.

Mary Lou Crews, age 84 of Brule died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Edgewood Memory Care Facility in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Mary Lou was born on January 22, 1940, in Brule, Nebraska to James and Ella (Bauer) Comer. She attended Brule schools and graduated from Brule High School in 1957.

Mary Lou married Paul D. Crews on June 14, 1959, at the First Congregational Church in Brule, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Ogallala and had such a great love for Lake McConaughy that they built a log home on the lake.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Crews; a daughter-in-law Melodee Thompson Crews; a brother Jimmy Comer and, a sister Maxine Kipp.

Mary Lou is survived by her son Craig (Wendy) Crews of Summerset, South Dakota; her daughter Julie (Kim) Hothan of Ogallala, Nebraska; brother Kenny (Fran) Comer of Brule, Nebraska; sister Lois Schuett of Kearney, Nebraska and sister-in-law Rosie Comer; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

Mary Lou Crews (1940-2024)

Beth died peacefully at Great Plains Hospital in North Platte, NE, April 3rd, with family by her side. &nbsp;She was born on April 6, 1977 in Skagway, Alaska to Del and Kay Almond. &nbsp;She completed their family joining sisters Kelly and Jennifer.

The family soon moved to Alliance, Nebraska and into a neighborhood filled with friends and family including her cousins, Travis, Trevor, and Todd.

She attended St. Agnes Academy, graduating from Alliance High School with the Class of 1995. She furthered her education by attending LPN school receiving her diploma alongside her childhood friend Hilary (Bauer) Gomez.

Beth was united in marriage to Chris Cook in July of 2001, and to this union Hunter Thomas and Kennedi Kay were added making their family complete.

Her desire to continue in her nursing profession led her to receive her R.N. and BSN. &nbsp;She worked in the North Platte area most of her career. She always had a love for the elderly and disabled. &nbsp;This led her to a new career role at the North Platte Opportunity Center while still carrying on her duties in the nursing field at Lighthouse LLC.

Her greatest joy without a doubt were her children, Hunter and Kennedi. &nbsp;She was their biggest cheerleader and advocate in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Delton.

Elizabeth "Beth" Almond Cook (1977-2024)

Michael Julius Soper passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 68 at Sedgewick County Health Center in Julesburg, CO.

Michael was born August 2, 1955, in Ogallala, NE, to Max and Phyllis Soper.&nbsp; He attended school in Big Springs, NE.&nbsp; Living in the Big Springs community his entire life, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Jimenez, where they pursued their love for farming and ranching while raising their 3 daughters.&nbsp; Michael was not only Judy’s husband, business partner but also her best friend.&nbsp; While on the farm, the girls worked alongside Michael and Judy as a family.&nbsp; During his farming, Michael won the High 10 Sugar Beet award.&nbsp; He served on the Big Springs CO-OP elevator board and 4-H livestock board.&nbsp; Michael’s fondest memories were the years that he spent with his daughters on their market steers.&nbsp; Michael found so much joy in following his children and then his grandchildren to their sporting events, school activities, and the Deuel County Fair.&nbsp; After years of farming and ranching, his health began to deteriorate but he still tried to help where he could.&nbsp; Farming was Michael’s life, and he took much pride in raising his crops.&nbsp; His friends and family will miss his rough exterior but heart of gold, his orneriness, and his ability to always tell a story.

Michael is survived by his wife, Judy and three daughters, Jessica (Chet) Brooks - Alliance, NE, Jennifer (Zach Ziegler) Evans - Big Springs, NE and Joy (Michael) Cearns - Big Springs.&nbsp; He is survived by his father, Floyd “Max” Soper - Big Springs and 4 sisters, Mary Rochlitz - Big Springs, Melodie (Ken) Woodworth - Big Springs, Michelle (Mark) Armstrong - Big Springs and Mona (Christopher) Garcia - Cheyenne along with numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He has 4 granddaughters, Aubrey DeNae, Makala Gene, McKinley Saige, and Trinity Jo and 5 grandsons Cooper Jacob, Conner James, Hudson Duane, Ryker Ray, and Max Michael.

Michael is preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Julius Soper, II; his mother, Phyllis Soper, and his grandmother, Margaret Soper.

Register book signing will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, NE, from 9 am-6 pm with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m.

Michael’s memorial service will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Merl “Buzz” Kettleborough age 89, formerly of Sargent, died April 1, 2024, at the Emerald Lake Care Home in Grand Island.

Merl “Buzz” Dean Kettleborough was born on October 29, 1934, at home in Comstock, NE to John and Verna (Newcomb) Kettleborough. He grew up in Custer County, NE. Buzz lived southwest of Anselmo where he farmed for many years. After selling the farm he met Alta Wilson, they married, and then the couple moved to Sargent. They bought and ran a carnival for many years. Later, they sold the carnival, and the couple moved to Taylor. Buzz took up trucking to support his family. Buzz and Alta ran the Bar/Café in Sargent and Taylor for many years. Alta passed away on July 4, 2005. Buzz continued to drive truck until 2017, when he finally retired and moved to Sargent. Buzz said, “I’ve backed more miles than most guys have drove.” He also liked to say that he had driven coast to coast and border to border. Due to failing health, Buzz became a resident at the Emerald Lakeview Care Home in Grand Island in 2022.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Buzz is survived by his children; Danny Kettleborough, Debbie (Rich) York, LeAnn (Scott) Weaver, Tim (Julie) Kettleborough, John (Brenda) Kettleborough, and Casey Kettleborough, stepchildren; Daisy Jackson and Robbie (Cindy) Wilson, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alta, a stepdaughter Laurie Rudnick, a stepson Randy Wilson, and brothers Glen and Gary.

Virginia Ann Nelson was born on August 3, 1938, at Hazard, Nebraska to Oscar and Virginia (Miller) Hunter. &nbsp; She grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska and graduated from Thedford High School. &nbsp;After high school, Ann taught in a moveable one-room schoolhouse for 3 years. &nbsp;Ann was married to Kenneth “Red” Nelson on August 9, 1956. &nbsp;

Ann worked as the manager of Stockman’s Café in Broken Bow and later as a waitress at the Tumbleweed Café in Broken Bow. &nbsp;She spent over 40 years serving the customers of Broken Bow. &nbsp;Ann was also well-known in the community for her 52 years of selling Avon. &nbsp;Ann enjoyed bowling with the local women’s bowling leagues. &nbsp;Ann was a member of the Broken Bow Doe’s and Rebekah’s.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Red”, and a daughter Kennetha.

Ann is survived by daughter Kenda (Mike) Ekdahl of North Platte, son Troy (Betsy) Nelson of Falls City, grandchildren Mick Ekdahl, Luke Ekdahl, Mackensie Nelson, Riley Nelson, and Connor Nelson, and unofficial adopted daughter Carmen (Anson) Bumgarner.
