&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Nola Elaine Troxel-Straub was born January 7, 1943, at home at the Troxel Farm three miles south of Wauneta, NE in Chase County. She departed this life on August 19, 2024, at the age 81 years 7 months and 12 days. Her parents, Charles Orley and Luella May Bush Troxel had three children, Norma Ellen, Neoma Evelyn and Charles Robert, all ready to welcome her to their family.

She started Dist. #31 “Sunny Side School” 3 1/2 miles south of Wauneta, NE. In the fourth grade, because of the consolidating of schools, she attended the grade school in Wauneta and rode the bus to school. Nola Troxel graduated in May 1960 from high school there. Harry Straub had moved to Wauneta and attended high school in 1956 and graduated in May of 1960 also.

In August of 1960 they were married in a ceremony at the Church of Christ on August 14, 1960. They made their home in Wauneta.

Harry left for the U.S. Air Force in 1961. After basic training, Nola Straub joined him in Wichita Falls, TX where their first son, Harry David Jr. was born in 1963.&nbsp;

After they moved back to Nebraska, their second son, Robert Wayne was born in McCook, NE in 1967. The family moved with Harry’s job to Cortez, CO, Kaycee, WY where their oldest son David married Lori Christensen. Robert married Amelia Greaves in McCook, NE.&nbsp;

Nola enjoyed learning to paint, gardening and babysitting the grandchildren that came along in the next few years before they moved to Rock Springs, WY. In Rock Springs, she started college and received her bachelor’s degree in Art. Harry retired in 1999, and they moved to Wauneta, NE to be closer to their brothers and sisters. She continued to enjoy painting with several classes at McCook College and started quilting with a guild. She also enjoyed wood carving. In the spring of 2004, they moved back to the farm where she was born. They both were born in the country and enjoyed the sun rises, sunsets and watching the weather change. She enjoyed her Bible Studies and Church. There is peace in the country and a feeling for nature like no place else. A place to garden and enjoy flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Nola’s grandparents Charles D. Troxel and Phoebe C. Dinnel – Troxel and Catherine E. Winsor – Bush preceded her in death before she was born. Grandfather, Manuel Benton Bush and brother, Charles Robert Troxel died when she was a child. Her parents, Orley and Luella, sisters, Neoma E. Miller and Norma E. Bodeman, two brothers in law Donald R. Miller and Gerold A. Bodeman preceded her in death.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Harry, son, H. David and wife Lori, son, Robert and wife Amy; seven grandchildren: Brianna, Kelsey, Shawn, Kaleb, Bill, Seth and Kaden Straub; and 10 great-grandchildren: Archer, Darcy, Carver, Coren, Emry, Barrett, Madelyn, Nikita, Colt and Oakleigh.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 A.M. (Central Time) at Church of Christ in Stratton, NE with Pastor Randy Hayes officiating. Viewing one hour prior to service. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE at 1:00 P.M. (Mountain Time).&nbsp;

Nola Elaine Straub (1943-2024)

Carroll Eugene Greene, passed away on August 12, 2024 in Imperial, Nebraska. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Benkelman, Nebraska, to Joseph Greene Sr. and Vera (Bricker) Greene.

Carroll led a fulfilling life as a Farmer and Rancher on the South Divide Line, embodying the values of hard work and dedication. Growing up his family regularly attended the Prairie Rose Country Methodist Church. He was educated at Ashgrove Elementary Country School and later, the halls of Wauneta High School, graduating with the class of 1948. Carroll played in every sport in High School with baseball being his favorite.&nbsp;

During the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, upon being drafted, Carroll served in the Army with distinction. For two years, he honed his skills as a field wireman and communication staff sergeant, demonstrating courage and commitment to his country.

Aside from his military service and agricultural pursuits, Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his earlier years. His love for sports carried on as an adult, being a big fan of the Nebraska Huskers, rarely missing a game. Carroll met the love of his life Ruth Lorraine Goble at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Denver, CO. The couple married in 1962 and eventually made their home in Imperial, NE. The couple danced together for over 40 years and were especially fond of traveling to the Elks Club in McCook to dance, where Carroll was a longtime member.&nbsp;

One of Carroll's many accomplishments was his membership at Frenchman Valley Coop, a testament to his strong work ethic and community spirit.

Carroll is survived by his loving daughter, Lori Ann Greene, who will cherish his memory forever. He is also survived by his grandsons, Sean Loeffler and Joshua Loeffler; great granddaughters Nia Marie Loeffler and Alani Lucia Loeffler, soon to arrive in November, great grandson Oliver; nieces, nephews and cousins. Their lives have been touched by his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love.

In his passing, Carroll is reunited with his wife, Ruth; his parents; his brothers Joseph Greene Jr. (Gloria), Glenard (Colleen) Greene; his sister, Virginia (George) King, and his niece Sylvia Large.&nbsp;

Carroll Eugene Greene's legacy as a devoted family man, a skilled farmer, and a proud serviceman will endure through the generations.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Imperial Methodist Church with Reverend Brian Loy Officiating. Inurnment will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Carroll Eugene Greene (1930-2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Juana Davila Rivas, on August 18, 2024, at the age of 92.

Juana was born on June 19, 1932, in Nacimiento, Coahuila, Mexico, to her parents Tomasa and Francisco. She grew up with her three brothers, Clemente, Ignacio, and Ernesto, and her five sisters, Tomasa, Marina, Francisca, Rosaura, and Manuela. The family eventually settled in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. As a child, Juana enjoyed helping her mother in the kitchen and fondly recalled making mud pies with her siblings.

As a young woman, she worked as a maid, where she met her future husband, Luis, who was employed as a gardener by the same family. They fell in love and married in October 1951 and started their family, having 12 children—6 boys and 6 girls. In November 1966, they moved to Texas and then ultimately settled in Ogallala, Nebraska. Ogallala became their forever home, and it was the perfect town to raise their beautiful family.

Eventually, after separating from her husband in 1977, Juana was left to raise her family all on her own. Despite the challenges of single motherhood, her strength and determination never wavered. She continued to work hard, securing a job at the Keith County Courthouse, where she worked for 20 years. Through her perseverance, she purchased a home at 500 E J Street, a place that became a cherished destination for all of her family. It will forever be part of the family, filled with the memories and love she created with her loved ones.

Known for her kindness and open heart, Juana helped raise many of her grandchildren, and her home was always open to everyone, family or not. She treated her grandchildren as if they were her own, and she cherished the summers they spent with her. She kept everyone happily fed with her freshly homemade flour tortillas and classic homemade meals—atole, eggs and beans, goulash, and Arroz con pollo. These staple dishes of hers will be greatly missed, but her cherished recipes will carry on through her family.

Juana is survived by her 15 children: Adela (Jose), Luis (Laura), San Juana, Maria Dolores-Lola (Edmundo), Julieta-Julie, Maria Elena-Nena, Rosendo-Randy, Guillermo-Memo, Gabriel (Sandy), Eugenio, Romeo (Kim), Cesar (Sarah), Genaro (Amanda), Toby (Cheri) and Diana-Nani. She leaves behind 41 grandchildren, including Lorena, Marisa (Jorge), Martin (Neva), Jeremy (Renee), Eric, Sarah, Nasencio (Alexa), Jesus, Sergio, Bianca, Lessette (Mauricio), Ezequiel, Edmundo Jr. (Ana), Ariana (Tim), Sasha(Hector), Luis (Endi), Emilio, Michael, Jasmin (Eddie), Juan, Abel, Caesare, Shandelle (Jeremy), Nicholas (Vanessa), Karissa (Andrew), Vanessa (Carlos), Nathan, (Shelia Jimenez) Mother of Emilio, Acacia, Cisco. (Donna Jayne)-Mother of Nathaniel, Chayenne. Isaiah, Gabrielle, Carlee (Micha), Mateo, Savannah (Nick), Isabella, Marine (Liz), Yracema, and Ivan (Reyna). She was also blessed with 70 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Juana was preceded in death by her husband, Luis; her parents, Tomasa and Francisco; her eight siblings; her son-in-law, Jose Cabada; and her daughter-in-law, Kim Rivas. A devout Catholic, Juana was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, Nebraska. She was the backbone of her family, always putting them first and finding joy in seeing them together.

Though her family mourns the loss of Juana, they find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. In her final days, she shared how proud she was of each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, totaling 129 descendants. Her family is eternally grateful for the strong legacy she leaves behind.

Visitation will be in The Draucker Funeral Home Chapel, Ogallala, Nebraska on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Rosary and wake service will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala with Fr. Suresh Bandha as Celebrant.

Juana will be laid to rest at the Ogallala Cemetery in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Her family closes this tribute with a message of hope and inspiration, one that Juana would undoubtedly want them to carry forward. Even in the toughest times, she always found a way to shine light and remain positive. Her resilience has taught us all that, no matter what challenges we face; our family bond will be the strength that gets us through. Let us continue the lesson she so lovingly instilled in us, knowing that her spirit will forever guide and inspire us to find the strength and courage to persevere.

She leaves behind 41 grandchildren, including Lorena, Marisa (Jorge), Martin (Neva), Jeremy (Renee), Eric, Sarah, Nasencio (Alexa), Jesus, Sergio, Bianca, Lessette (Mauricio), Ezequiel, Edmundo Jr. (Ana), Ariana (Tim), Sasha(Hector), Luis (Endi), Emilio, Michael, Jasmin (Eddie), Juan, Abel, Caesare, Shandelle (Jeremy), Nicholas (Vanessa), Karissa (Andrew), Vanessa (Carlos), Nathan, (Shelia Jimenez) Mother of Emilio, Acacia, Cisco. (Donna Jayne)-Mother of Nathaniel, Chayenne. Isaiah, Gabrielle, Carlee (Micha), Mateo, Savannah (Nick), Isabella, Marine (Liz), Yracema, and Ivan (Reyna). She was also blessed with 70 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.Juana was preceded in death by her husband, Luis; her parents, Tomasa and Francisco; her eight siblings; her son-in-law, Jose Cabada; and her daughter-in-law, Kim Rivas. A devout Catholic, Juana was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, Nebraska. She was the backbone of her family, always putting them first and finding joy in seeing them together.Though her family mourns the loss of Juana, they find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering. Juana Rivas (1932-2024)

Mark Edward Armstrong, age 71 of Big Springs, Nebraska passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024, with his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstrong by his side.

Mark Armstrong was born on July 20, 1953, in Grant, NE to Allen and Arlene (Donahue) Armstrong of Big Springs, Nebraska. Mark graduated high school in 1971 in Grant, Nebraska. Mark then married his sweetheart Michelle (Soper) Armstrong on September 8, 1979, and have been married for 45 years. Together Mark and Michelle enjoyed raising their family together.

Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking trips to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Texas. He loved fishing in Estes Park, Colorado, and Wyoming.

Mark lived in Brule, Nebraska, Whitman, Nebraska, and Big Springs. In his adventures in his lifetime, Mark enjoyed his ranch life, raising cattle and having his roping horses. Mark was involved in team roping in which he won several jackpots.

He held offices involved in the American Quarter Horse Association. Mark also loved doing the wild horse races and riding cows at the local fairs. Mark also served on the Junior Board at the elevator and 4-H in Deuel County.

Mark enjoyed going on trail rides on horseback with his children. He loved dancing at rodeos it was one of the highlights of life that brought him so much joy, he even once danced at the Elks Lodge in Westminster, Colorado. If there was a rodeo dance, you would more than likely find Mark kicking up his boots.

Over the years Mark worked for Garth Ogier, of Whitman, Nebraska, Duanne Hoover of Brule, Nebraska, Max Soper of Big Springs, Nebraska; as a self-employed farmer for a time, HS&amp;S of Brule, Nebraska and; Darrell and Brian Armstrong of Brule.

Mark fought prostate cancer and bone cancer for five years traveling to North Platte, Nebraska, Fort Collins, Colorado, Seattle, Washington and Blaine, Washington for treatments. When Mark wasn’t traveling for treatments, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mark is survived by his wife Michelle (Soper) Armstong; his children, Kandace (Alex) Footman of Blaine, Washington, Dixie (Tim) Chilzer of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and Chase (Emma) Armstrong of Sidney, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Zander, Savii, Mark, and Riggs; three siblings, Beverly (Jerry) Baker of Northglenn, Colorado, Connie (Jack) Barker of Knoxville, Tennessee and Roger (Elaine) Armstrong of Berthoud, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Arlene Armstrong; his grandparents and infant sister Gloria Armstrong.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. in The Assembly of God Church with Chaplain Robin Storer and Pastor Jared Mitchell officiating in Big Springs, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be in the Big Springs Cemetery, Big Springs, Nebraska.

Mark Edward Armstrong (1953-2024)

Dan "Digger" Nelson, the son of Owen and June Nelson, was born December 13, 1941, in North Platte. &nbsp;He peacefully passed away at his daughter's home in Sutherland on August 18, 2024, at age 82.

Dan was born at home, the seventh of 10 kids, and grew up in North Platte. &nbsp;After graduating from N.P.H.S. he went to work for Central Nebraska Packing. &nbsp;In 1962 he started working as a mechanic for Ace Kinnaman then returned to Central Pack a year later and was with them until 1968 when he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;Dan was a Brakeman/Conductor on the Third District. &nbsp;He also worked part-time for Melvin Bayne at Hershey and dug graves at the Hershey and Sutherland cemeteries, thus earning him the nickname "Digger".

On March 17, 1962, Dan married Sandra Harshfield. &nbsp;They made their home in Sutherland and raised four children, Natalie, Virginia, Gregory and Matthew.

Dan was a member of UTU Local #200, past member of the Sutherland Jaycees, and active in the Sutherland community. &nbsp;Baseball was always of great interest to Dan; he loved playing and coaching . &nbsp;He also volunteered a lot of time and effort into the rebuilding of Mainard Coker Baseball Field in Sutherland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and June; siblings, Willo, Glenn and Julian Nelson, Patricia Chittenden and Anieda Mobley; and daughter, Natalie Crooks.

Dan is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Virginia "Ginny" Medina (Joe) and Gregory Nelson (Nancy) of Sutherland and Matthew Nelson (Lena) of North Platte; grandchildren, Adam Huggans (Jessie), Sean Huggans (Kalpana), Mikaela Metzger (Michael), Cassandra Medina (Bradley Whitworth), Marley Nelson, Kristen Ruiz (Kyle), Jocey Taylor (Tyler), Lauren Nelson, Maximilian Nelson, Chloe Nelson and step granddaughter, Emma Wareham; brothers, James Nelson (Kathy) of Franklin, Richard Nelson of Harmon, IL, Harold Nelson of Lincoln and Albert Nelson of Franklin; 12 great-grandkids, 2 step great-grandkids; and many other family members.

Family visitation will be Thursday, August 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the St. Patrick's Parish Center in Sidney, Nebraska. Services will be Friday, August 23 with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney with Father C.P. Varghese officiating.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.

Harold Raymond Perkins, the oldest of three boys, was born August 3, 1938 in La Crosse, Kansas to Evelyn T. (McHugh) and Harold C. Perkins. The Perkins family moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1943. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1956 and attended college at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

While attending college, Harold met Norma Browning. They married in 1959 in Phillipsburg, Kansas and celebrated 64 years together. From this union, three children were born-Terri, Tammy and Tom.

Harold started working for Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Co. (KN Energy) in 1962 as a laborer. He soon worked his way up to District Manager. During his years with the gas company, he and his family moved to several towns in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Kansas. Harold and Norma moved to Sidney in 1989, where he worked as the District Manager for KN and was promoted to Division Manager until his retirement in 1998.&nbsp;

His greatest joys were spending time with his family and helping others. He also had amazing leadership qualities that he shared through volunteering in his church and community. Harold served as an usher at St. Patrick’s Church for 30 years and served on the St. Pat’s Catholic Foundation and St. Pat’s Finance Committee. He was active in the Cheyenne County Chamber serving as President in 1999 and later an Ambassador. Other volunteer positions in Sidney included The Planning Commission, Airport Authority, Cheyenne County Community Center, SALT (Sidney Area Leadership Training), as well as several other City Boards, WNCC Endowment Association, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Sidney Elks Lodge, Panhandle Senior Golf, and Sidney Flyers.&nbsp;

His community and business leadership were also instrumental in the previous communities his career took his family, including: Scott City, KS; Casper, WY; McCook, NE; Chadron, NE and Julesburg, CO.

Harold also had a few hobbies. He started playing golf in 1952, playing for his high school and college teams. He continued to be an excellent golfer for over 70 years and enjoyed teaching his family to love the game. He also liked to fly, starting with U-control models to RC model airplanes and even holding a pilot's license for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, his children, Terri Strand and husband Ron of Rapid City, SD, Tammy Miller and husband Steve of Sidney, and Tom Perkins and special friend, Susie Hart of Scottsdale, AZ. Grandchildren, Jennifer Vasquez and husband Sev, Michelle Haynes, Kelli Haynes, Blake Miller, and Arianna Perkins. Great granddaughters, Izzy, Addy and Emmy Vasquez. Brothers, Gerald Perkins and wife Becky, Verlyn Perkins and wife Kaye. Several nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Harold Perkins (1938-2024)

Virginia Connors age 87 of Merna died Friday, August 16, 2024, at her home in Merna.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Hospice Pastor Barry Holden officiating. The burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21st, from 5:00 -7:00 PM at Govier Brothers. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.&nbsp;

Virginia May Connors was born September 21, 1936, in Broken Bow, NE to Eddie and Alice Jeannette (Bolen) Eacker. Virginia went to school in Broken Bow and received her GED in Alaska.

In April of 1960, Virginia was married to the love of her life in Leadville, CO at the Catholic Church. He proposed to Virginia in his brother’s bathroom, and they spent their honeymoon at the Colorado State Prison. The couple moved to Alaska in 1970, then moved back to Broken Bow in 1979, to take care of the elderly.

Virginia moved to Merna 34 years ago and went to work for Becton Dickinson where she worked for six years.

Virginia enjoyed flowers, gardening, old radio program stories, horses, butterflies, and cardinals.

Virginia enjoyed having coffee and talking with her friends and saying “Good Morning” to all who came through the doors of Trotters in Merna.

Her favorite movies were “Where the Red Fern Grows” and “The Help”, her favorite magazines were Good Ol’ Days and Western magazines, favorite food was Popcorn and Fudge.

Virginia was preceded in death by her son Blaine, whom she called my “Little Pumpkin”, her parents Eddie and Alice, her husband Robert Connors, &nbsp;brothers Carl Eacker and infant brother Daryl Eacker.

Virginia is survived by her sons; Jimmy Eacker of Merna, Wayne Eacker of Fairbanks, AL., Terry Connors of South Korea, and Kyle Connors of North Pole, AL., and her daughter Candy (Norman) McCall of Cotopaxi, CO. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, numerous great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-grandchildren, her brother Larry (Roberta) Eacker of Arizona, a sister Betty Hickerson of Lincoln.

The couple moved to Alaska in 1970, then moved back to Broken Bow in 1979, to take care of the elderly.Virginia moved to Merna 34 years ago and went to work for Becton Dickinson where she worked for six years.Virginia enjoyed flowers, gardening, old radio program stories, horses, butterflies, and cardinals.Virginia enjoyed having coffee and talking with her friends and saying “Good Morning” to all who came through the doors of Trotters in Merna.Her favorite movies were “Where the Red Fern Grows” and “The Help”, her favorite magazines were Good Ol’ Days and Western magazines, favorite food was Popcorn and Fudge.Virginia was preceded in death by her son Blaine, whom she called my “Little Pumpkin”, her parents Eddie and Alice, her husband Robert Connors, &nbsp;brothers Carl Eacker and infant brother Daryl Eacker.Virginia is survived by her sons; Jimmy Eacker of Merna, Wayne Eacker of Fairbanks, AL., Terry Connors of South Korea, and Kyle Connors of North Pole, AL., and her daughter Candy (Norman) McCall of Cotopaxi, CO. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, numerous great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-grandchildren, her brother Larry (Roberta) Eacker of Arizona, a sister Betty Hickerson of Lincoln.

Charles L. Skinner, 85, of Ogallala, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Indian Hills in Ogallala.

Charles was born on August 14, 1939, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Theodore "Theo" and Evelyn (Miller) Skinner. He grew up in the Ogallala area and attended Ogallala High School. Following high school, Charles served in the Army National Guard for several years.

On February 26, 1966, Charles married Mary Yost in Imperial, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Ogallala and were blessed with a son, Shawn.

Charles worked as a painter for many years in and around the Ogallala area, specializing in both interior and exterior work.

In his spare time, Charles enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. He was a quiet man who appreciated the simple things in life, like sitting outside and enjoying the neighborhood goings-on.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, four half-sisters, one half-brother, and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Ogallala; son, Shawn (Jill) Skinner of Ogallala; grandchildren, Brock and Merritt Skinner; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at New Hope Church in Ogallala. Interment with military honors will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery.

Vernelle M. Schultz, 92, passed away August 14, 2024 in Elkhorn, NE where she had resided since 2017. She was born on August 5, 1932 at her Grandpa and Grandma Brestel’s ranch north of Moorefield, NE, to Harry V. Mercer and Ardath M. (Brestel) Mercer. The family lived in the Moorefield/Brady area and Vernelle attended grade school at the Sleepy Hollow country school. She completed high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis and after completing Normal Teacher Training she taught school at the Sleepy Hollow country school.

Vernelle married Ivan G. Schultz on April 7, 1951 in McCook, NE and this union was blessed with six children, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren during their 53 years of marriage. They bought a farm north of Moorefield where they raised cattle and farmed. Vernelle worked at the Moorefield Central Telephone office and the Post Office while taking care of her family. In 1963, they sold the farm and moved to Curtis after purchasing the Gambles Hardware Store. In 1971, Vernelle went to work at the Medicine Valley High School as the Kitchen Manager until retiring in 1992.

Vernelle was a member of the Curtis United Methodist Church and active in the Methodist Women’s Club and Circle. She was a past member of P.E.O. and belonged to a Bridge club and Pinochle Club. She also enjoyed playing pitch and volunteering at the Senior Center. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. and her kids and grandkids looked forward to her homemade chicken and noodles, Angel Food cakes, and jars of homemade jams and jellies. She always raised a big garden and was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many prom and bridesmaid dresses, baby blankets and quilts. Vernelle never missed a family member or friend’s birthday and always sent a card.

Vernelle moved to Elkhorn, NE in 2017 to be closer to her children. She enjoyed the friendships she developed at Elk Ridge Senior Living and favorite activities included Bingo, playing cards, completing puzzles and watching Husker football and volleyball games. She moved to Brookestone Meadows Care Center in 2023.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, brothers Virgil, Gerald(Elfreide) and Kelly(Evelyn), and sister Eleanor.

Survivors include her children: Teresa(Sid)Porter, Rodney(Jeani)Schultz, Barbara(Mark)Vreeland, Sandra(Terry)Peterson, Michael(Adelheid)Schultz and Patricia(Rik)Weiss.

Joy McCallum Cowles, 97, of North Plate, NE passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Linden Court. Joy was born to Frank Vern and Bertha Jane (Barnes) McCallum on September 16, 1926 at the McCallum Ranch north of Wauneta, NE. &nbsp;She grew up on the ranch, and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1943. &nbsp;

Joy was married to Richard Otis Cowles in 1947. Together they had 2 daughters, Peggy and Cindy. Joy was actively involved in her daughters' activities, including being on the Guardian Council of Job's Daughters. She worked in the bank and in offices as a bookkeeper. In 1972 the family moved to Trenton, NE where she worked in a tax preparation office and later ran a tax preparation business. She was an active member of the Wauneta Methodist Church and Trenton Congregational Church. Joy enjoyed serving on the election board in both communities. Joy was a very good cook and was especially known for her homemade pies and cinnamon rolls. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.&nbsp;

Joy was predeceased by her parents, Vern and Bertha, and her husband of 63 years, "Dick".&nbsp;

Those left to cherish Joy's memory are her daughters Peggy (Rand) Levy of Champion, NE, and Cindy (Tim) Litz of North Platte; grandchildren Jamie (Matt) Nutt, Jordan Warner, Mick (Taylor) Litz, and Angie (Jon) Gamble; great grandchildren Coby Uhlig, Braxton, Breelynn, Kinsley and Stetson Litz; brother Clint (Betty) McCallum of Wauneta, and special friend Mary Hepburn.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; Doretta attended school in Wauneta, Nebraska and graduated high school with the class of 1958. Doretta then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University where she studied business. Doretta married Harold “Peco” Anderson on February 13, 1960. To this union two sons were born, Andrew R. and Hugh L.&nbsp; Doretta was employed by the Village of Wauneta for over 40 years. Peco and Doretta enjoyed spending time together road tripping to various casinos throughout the country. They also enjoyed attending Husker football games. Most of all, they dearly loved attending their grandsons’ events throughout the years. Doretta had passion for reading books, completing sudoku and crossword puzzles, spending time in her garden and volunteering at the Wauneta Senior Center.

JARED T. SATTERFIELD, 43, of Ogallala, passed away on August 8, 2024.

Jared Satterfield was born in Provo, Utah, on August 16, 1980, to Todd and Jennifer (Gross) Satterfield. He graduated from Sarasota High School in Florida with the Class of 1999.

On July 30, 2005, Jared was united in marriage to Julie Walker. The couple would make their home in Firestone, Colorado, where Jared worked in insulation sales for many years, specializing in new construction projects throughout the Denver area. The Satterfields enjoyed spending weekends at Lake McConaughy, eventually purchasing a home there and moving to Ogallala three years ago.

Jared was known for his quiet, witty demeanor, often marked by his dry, sarcastic humor. He loved speaking in movie quotes, being at the lake, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. Though he was reserved and preferred the background to the spotlight, he was fiercely loyal to his friends. He cherished his family deeply. In 2012, Jared gave his life to Jesus, which was the best thing he ever did.

Jared was preceded in death by his mother, Jennifer Rauchfuss, and his grandmother, Judith Gross.

Survivors include his wife and daughter, Julie and Kate Satterfield of Ogallala; his father, Todd Satterfield; his siblings, Jon Satterfield, Graham (Marty) Satterfield, and Jenee (Josh) Reynolds; his aunt, Julie Becker; his cousin, Jenna Crofts; his best friend and brother of the heart, Jeremy Wilhelm; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry Waline (Weber) Cotton, age 88, passed peacefully into heaven surrounded by all her children on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, Nebraska. She was a caring, faithful person loved by all who had the joy of knowing her.

Born on February 24, 1936, in McCook, Nebraska to Walter &amp; Lucille (Wagner) Weber, she spent her youth in McCook attending various primary schools before graduating from McCook High School in 1954.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry married her first husband in the fall of 1954 in McCook, Nebraska and worked at Hestad’s Variety Store, Sears, and was the bookkeeper for McCook Packing Plant. After 11 years this marriage ended.

&nbsp; &nbsp; On November 18, 1965, Sherry married Paul Cotton in McCook and became a loving mother to his three children Dale, Judy and Jane. To this union were born three additional children, David, Patricia, and Sonya. The family lived on a farm south of McCook until moving to Missouri in 1967, settling in Coffey, Missouri in 1971. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed watching several of the neighborhood children. Sherry loved cooking and baking and was well known in the community for her cinnamon rolls. She spent time in many kitchens over the years having owned Cotton’s Café, cooking at the Gallatin Senior Center, Coffey School, McCook Senior Center, and Kinship Pointe. She also enjoyed volunteering and delivered meals on wheels, drove the Handi bus, and made lap blankets for the elderly.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Through the entirety of her life, Sherry was very strong in her faith and lived her life devoted to God. She read her bible every day and attended church every Sunday for as long as she was able.

&nbsp; &nbsp; One of Sherry’s greatest loves was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and traveling with her sister, Jean Elley. Over the years Sherry lived near her family in Missouri, Iowa, and ended up returning to McCook, Nebraska in 2018.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Sherry was preceded in death by her Husband; Parents; Sister, Genevieve Kuck, Sisters-in-law, Lucille Stitt, Juanita Weber, and Henrietta Weber; Brothers-in-law, Bruce Kuck, Glen Stitt, and Bill Elley; Nephews, Tim Elley, Bob Fouts, and Keith Weber.

Sherry W. Cotton (1936-2024)

Marjorie M. (Smith) Schneider, 89, of Callaway, NE died peacefully August 10, 2024 at the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, NE surrounded by her family. Marjorie was born July 8, 1935 in Kearney, NE to James and Bessie (Vangreen) Smith of rural Callaway. She was named for Marjorie (Stryker) Edgington, a country school teacher who had boarded with her parents. Marjorie attended Sand Valley Country School through 8th grade across the road from the farm where she lived since age eight, west of Callaway. She then attended Callaway High School where she graduated in 1952 as Valedictorian. Having taken normal teacher training during high school, Marjorie taught at a country school west of Callaway for a year after graduating in order to save money to go to college. She then attended Kearney State College to become a teacher. Marjorie filled in for a teacher on maternity leave in January 1955 in Cozad. She taught 1st grade at Cozad for a year and a half. She had planned to take a teaching job in Minden, but met the love of her life, Alex W. Schneider of Cozad. They were married August 11, 1956 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Callaway. Marjorie taught 4th grade in Cozad for another year before she and Alex moved home to Marjorie’s family farm west of Callaway.&nbsp;

After Marjorie’s father passed away in 1956, Marjorie and Alex farmed and ranched and raised their three children on the same homestead where Marjorie was raised. Marjorie returned to Kearney State College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She taught 5th grade at Callaway from 1969 to 1996. Marjorie was a substitute teacher at Callaway Elementary School for several years after she retired. Marjorie was also a voracious reader. She read scripture daily and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Marjorie devoted her life to loving her family and helping people at school, at church and in the community of Callaway.

In 1986, Alex and Marjorie received the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award from Knights of AK-SAR-BEN honoring the Edward Smith Homestead, whose family owned the same farm for 100 years, thus contributing a century of loyal service to the development of Nebraska agriculture.

Marjorie and Alex enjoyed fishing and socializing with their friends at Van’s Lakeview at Lake McConaughy until 2019. Marjorie received Master Angler awards for catching a qualifying white bass in 1995 and walleye in 1999. Alex and Marjorie also enjoyed traveling across the United States as well as to Mexico, El Salvador, Rome and Germany. Marjorie was famous for baking cookies and zucchini bread for friends and family. She also canned vegetables from their enormous garden.&nbsp;

&nbsp;After her husband Alex passed away Marjorie moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living in Grant, NE to be closer to her daughters. She enjoyed getting cards, letters, phone calls and visits from friends and family. She liked to watch Husker Volleyball and Let’s Make A Deal on TV. Marjorie was a lifetime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Callaway American Legion Auxiliary Post 59.

Survivors include her son, Alex James (Jackie) Schneider of Lincoln: daughters Sheri (Jack) Chittenden of Paxton and Connie Holz of Ogallala; sister, Jody Farmer of Sidney; grandchildren Jon (Kelsey) Chittenden of Yutan, Leanne (Jeremy) Orlowski of Lincoln, Jessica (Matt) Deaver of Grant and Alex (Addison) Schneider of Lincoln; eight great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Alex, her parents, her infant siblings Terrence and Mary Smith, and her son-in-law Denton Holz.

Marjorie Marie Schneider (1935-2024)

Karen Eileen Davison of Lincoln, NE passed away at home on Monday, July 29, 2024. Karen was born on April 28, 1956, to John and Barbara (McGahan) Olivigni in Oxford, NE. The family eventually moved to Lewellen, NE where she attended public schools and graduated from LRHS in May 1974.

In June, 1972, Karen met her future husband, Larry Davison, at a cattle branding located near Oshkosh, NE. Larry joined the Army in March 1973. Karen and Larry were married in Ogallala, NE on June 15, 1974. They made their first home together at Ft. Bliss Texas (El Paso) until January 1975. Larry received orders to report to Camp Humphreys, South Korea in December 1974 and Karen went with him and they stayed in Korea for 14 months.

They returned to Ogallala in 1976 and later moved to North Platte. On January 22, 1981, they welcomed their daughter Alyssa Ann Davison into this world.&nbsp;Shortly after, they moved to Ft. Sill, OK so Larry could attend more military&nbsp;training. After the training they moved back to North Platte until the spring of&nbsp;1982, when Karen, Larry and Alyssa moved to Chadron NE to attend college. Karen and Larry both graduated from CSC in December, 1985. Karen graduated with summa cum laude honors.

While Larry was attending another military school at Ft. Sill, OK, in 1986, Karen got a job with the Social Security Administration in Lawton, OK. Eventually, she applied and was hired by SSA in Lincoln, NE and they moved to Lincoln in 1987. In 2011, Karen retired from SSA and went to work for a local law firm until Larry retired and they moved to Clermont, FL. It was always her dream to live by the ocean and that is what she did for three years. Eventually they moved back to Lincoln to be with family, friends and doctors in 2023.

Karen enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending concerts, with Bon Jovi being at the top of the list. She and Larry attended two Bon Jovi concerts during the same weekend a few years ago. Karen and Larry loved Disney World and visited as often as they could. Karen was especially proud of the medal she earned for completing the Walt Disney World half-marathon. She also liked visiting Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, reading, spending time at the beach with her two sisters each&nbsp;year, playing board and card games and was a skilled Mahjongg player, playing online and in local groups in Florida and Nebraska. She also was a member of a local bible study group in Lincoln. She was an avid supporter of the Hearts United for Animals in Auburn, NE. Karen liked dogs and absolutely loved her Pomeranian, Riley!

Karen is proceeded in death by her parents, father-in-law Clarence Davison, brother-in-law Don Davison, and sister-in-law Pearl Davison.

Those she left behind are her husband Larry, daughter Alyssa and fiancé Mathew Kister, Riley (Pomeranian), sisters Lisa Olivigni, Lorna (Steve) Triplett, brother Fran (Lynne) Olivigni, mother-in-law Doris Imogene Davison, and brothers-in-law Rod Davison, Steve (Kay) Davison, Kevin Davison, Kent (Jeannine) Davison, and Monte (Shawna) Davison, many nieces and nephews, and many good friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Carpenter Memorial Chapel on 10:00 am August 16, 2024 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Rinke officiating. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Inurnment will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.

Karen Davison (1956-2024)

TIMOTHY H. SCHULZ, 62, of Ogallala, passed away on August 5, 2024, at the Methodist Hospital of Omaha.

Tim was born January 4, 1962, in Sidney, Nebraska, to Henry and Louise (Pieper) Schulz. He graduated from Ogallala High School. He briefly attended UNL, where he studied engineering.

On October 23, 1982, Tim married Mindy Mueller at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. The couple made their home in Ogallala and were blessed with two girls: Timarie and Tiffany.

Tim worked as a truck driver and mover for Chief Transfer and Storage for a number of years. The company was owned by his parents, and Tim appreciated the time he spent with them over the years. In 2002, Tim became disabled, and his health necessitated a change of pace.

Tim loved his family and grandchildren immensely. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish with his dogs. He had a gentle heart and a great love of animals. He had a particular soft spot for dogs and always kept one or two hunting dogs. Tim also had many horses over the years and loved to spend time riding. He enjoyed swimming, boating, and skiing and always treasured his time spent at the lake, whether for the weekend or just sneaking away for part of the day to go windsurfing.

Tim was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, where he had served as a lector and was a member of the Knights of Columbus before his health issues.

Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mindy, in 2019; his parents and parents-in-law; brother-in-law Jonathan Proudfit; sister-in-law Barb Mueller; and niece, Jessica Eidem.

Survivors include his daughters, Timarie (Ryan) Tushner of Fremont and Tiffany Schulz (Adam Heiden) of Lincoln; grandchildren Tanner, Timberlin, Teakyn, and Tyla Tushner; siblings, Liz (Steve) Johnson of Burwell, Barb Schulz of Omaha, and Ernie (Kelly) Schulz of Ozark, MO; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

 </figure>TIMOTHY H. SCHULZ, 62, of Ogallala, passed away on August 5, 2024, at the Methodist Hospital of Omaha.Tim was born January 4, 1962, in Sidney, Nebraska, to Henry and Louise (Pieper) Schulz. He graduated from Ogallala High School. He briefly attended UNL, where he studied engineering.On October 23, 1982, Tim married Mindy Mueller at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. The couple made their home in Ogallala and were blessed with two girls: Timarie and Tiffany.Tim worked as a truck driver and mover for Chief Transfer and Storage for a number of years. The company was owned by his parents, and Tim appreciated the time he spent with them over the years. In 2002, Tim became disabled, and his health necessitated a change of pace.Tim loved his family and grandchildren immensely. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish with his dogs. He had a gentle heart and a great love of animals. He had a particular soft spot for dogs and always kept one or two hunting dogs. Tim also had many horses over the years and loved to spend time riding. He enjoyed swimming, boating, and skiing and always treasured his time spent at the lake, whether for the weekend or just sneaking away for part of the day to go windsurfing.Tim was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, where he had served as a lector and was a member of the Knights of Columbus before his health issues.Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mindy, in 2019; his parents and parents-in-law; brother-in-law Jonathan Proudfit; sister-in-law Barb Mueller; and niece, Jessica Eidem.Survivors include his daughters, Timarie (Ryan) Tushner of Fremont and Tiffany Schulz (Adam Heiden) of Lincoln; grandchildren Tanner, Timberlin, Teakyn, and Tyla Tushner; siblings, Liz (Steve) Johnson of Burwell, Barb Schulz of Omaha, and Ernie (Kelly) Schulz of Ozark, MO; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Tim.
