Nebraska Game Notes vs. Maryland

  1. With a victory, Nebraska increased its lead in the all-time series between the schools to 4-1, including 2-1 in Lincoln. The Huskers have now won 15 of their past 17 Homecoming games in Lincoln.
  2. Nebraska improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2016, and is 2-0 in Big Ten play for the first time since 2017.
  3. Nebraska scored 48 points and has scored at least 30 points in every game this season. This is the first time Nebraska has scored more than 30 points in five consecutive games since 2018, and the first time NU has scored at least 30 points in each of the first five games since 2014.
  4. Nebraska has won each of its first five games by at least 17 points. This is the first time the Huskers have won five straight games by at least 17 points since the 2001 season.
  5. Nebraska allowed 207 yards on 24 plays in the first quarter, and allowed just 188 yards the remainder of the game. In the third quarter, Nebraska allowed just 19 yards on eight Maryland offensive snaps.
  6. After Maryland held a 207-38 edge in total offense in the first quarter, Nebraska out-gained the Terrapins by 221 yards over the final three quarters, including a 158-yard edge (270-112) in the second and third quarters combined.
  7. Safety Dwayne McDougle III had an 81-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter, marking his seventh career interception and his first as a Husker.
  8. It marked McDougle’s second career touchdown after scoring on a fumble return for San Diego State last season.
  9. The 81-yard interception return for a touchdown was the first pick-six for Nebraska since Ceyair Wright at USC in 2024. It was the longest pick-six for a Husker player since Bo Ruud had a 93-yard interception for a touchdown against Iowa State in 2007.
  10. Nebraska defensive back Jeremiah Charles blocked a first-quarter punt to set up a Nebraska touchdown. It marked Charles’ first career blocked punt and Nebraska’s second blocked punt of the year. The Huskers also have a blocked field goal.
  11. Receiver Kwazi Gilmer tied his career high with 10 receptions for a career-high 147 yards, bettering his previous high of 101 yards last week at Michigan State. He also had 10 receptions against USC last season.
  12. Gilmer’s 10-catch effort is the first double-figure reception game by a Husker since Trey Palmer in 2022. Today’s game marked the third time this season Gilmer has had at least five receptions.
  13. Gilmer had 101 receiving yards last week and is the first Husker to have back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Samori Toure in September of 2021. Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten in 2011 Gilmer is just the third player to have 100-yard receiving efforts in back-to-back conference games (Toure, JD Spielman).
  14. With his 10 receptions, Gilmer pushed his career receptions total to 109.
  15. Gilmer caught two touchdown passes, his second game this season with multiple touchdown receptions.
  16. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 108 yards, accounting for 346 yards of total offense. With his 346 yards he increased his career total to 10,084 yards of total offense in his career.
  17. Colandrea’s 108 rushing yards were a career-high, bettering a 93-yard effort against Idaho State last season while playing at UNLV. His 51-yard run in the fourth quarter was a career-long bettering a 37-yard run against Idaho State last season.
  18. Colandrea is the first Husker quarterback to top 100 rushing yards since Heinrich Haarberg rushed for 157 yards against Louisiana Tech in 2023.
  19. Tight end Luke Lindenmeyer caught a 1-yard TD pass to close the first half, marking his first touchdown catch of the season and the third of his career.
  20. Running back Mekhi Nelson had a 19-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for Nebraska and added a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter. This is Nelson’s second two-TD game of the season after having both a rushing and receiving score against Ohio in the opener. 
  21. Defensive end Kade Pietrzak had a second-quarter interception marking his first career interception.
  22. Safety Jamir Conn had four tackles to push his career tackles total to 102.
  23. Linebacker Vincent Shavers Jr. had five tackles to push his career total to 103.
