LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- Juliana Aragon scored 23 points and two others scored in double-digits, pushing the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls past CSC Saturday night, 60-47 in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
CSC falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference. The Cowgirls improve to 2-0 in conference play.
Highlands shot 38 percent compared to the Eagles 35.7 percent from the field.
Both teams were tied at 10 to finish the first period before the Cowgirls outscored the Eagles 17-8 in the second period. CSC chipped three points off of the deficit at the end of the third but were outscored by the Cowgirls 19-12 in the final period.
The Eagles finished five of 14 from behind the arc for 35.7 percent and were 2-6 from the charity stripe for 33 percent. All of CSC's free throw attempts occurred in the second half.
Highlands struggled from three, shooting 17.6 percent, but were 19 of 23 from the free throw line for 82.6 percent. Chadron State outrebounded the Cowgirls 35 to 32.
In the loss, the Eagles had a season low 13 turnovers in which the Cowgirls turned into 13 points. CSC scored eight points on seven Cowgirl turnovers.
Aragon had 23 points to lead both teams while being an efficient 11 of 13 from the charity stripe. Delani Harris added 16 and Vanessa Herrera had 12 for the Cowgirls. Only three other players scored.
Ashayla Powers, a junior from Longmont, Colorado led the Eagles with 12 points and five rebounds.
