LINCOLN – The Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) will celebrate National County Government Month this April with a renewed focus on telling the county story and highlighting the people and services that impact the everyday lives of Nebraskans in all 93 counties. The celebration kicked off on April 1 when county officials from across Nebraska gathered at the Capitol to meet with senators, speak with state leaders, learn more about the legislative process, and engage in NACO’s advocacy efforts.
In recognition of the essential role counties play in helping Nebraska thrive, Governor Jim Pillen has also signed a proclamation declaring April as County Government Month in Nebraska.
Counties are responsible for maintaining roads and infrastructure, administering elections, providing public safety, and delivering a myriad of other critical services that help their communities thrive. National County Government Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate these efforts and shine a light on the important work that counties do.
“Counties are the linchpins of our society,” said NACO Executive Director Jon Cannon. “County government cares for the things everyone uses or relies on every day – whether it’s roads, law enforcement, elections, or beyond. While everyone reads about what happens in Washington and Lincoln, it’s your local counties which have the greatest effect on your daily life. County officials are your friends, family, and neighbors. We encourage every Nebraskan to recognize the tremendous work our county officials and employees do for our communities.”
NACO is proud to join the National Association of Counties and other associations across the country in championing the county workforce and encouraging civic engagement. This year’s emphasis on storytelling will help residents better understand how county services impact their day-to-day lives.
NACO encourages county officials, employees, residents, and schools to participate in National County Government Month by helping tell their county’s story.
