Shelton, Neb. - On the afternoon of Monday, June 17, 2024 the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an adult female experiencing a mental health crisis south of Shelton NE Interstate 80 interchange.
At approximately 12:14 PM BCSO was notified of some suspicious activity relating to an adult family member. It was reported the female may be experiencing a reported mental health crisis, expressed concerns and requesting assistance in a check welfare. It was reported the female was in a vehicle, possibly armed and not cooperating with offers of assistance.
The vehicle was able to be located in the area of the Platte River bridge south of the Shelton NE I-80 Interchange. The female departed on foot with unknown intentions. At some point, the female reportedly fired several rounds at different times, but unknown for sure what she was shooting at.
Authorities located an armed 62 year Gibbon, NE woman next to the Platte River bridge. With the assistance of UAV’s and ground personnel, the female was able to be safely monitored until such time as she was safely taken into emergency custody without incident.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of Kearney Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, NE Game & Parks Commission, GSH Paramedics, and Shelton Volunteer Fire Department and EMS. No injuries were reported.
At the time of this, there are no criminal charges anticipated.
