Lincoln, Neb. - Despite outshooting the Huskies 25-9, the Nebraska soccer team fell 2-0 to Washington at home on Senior Sunday.
Nebraska also held the advantage in corners (7-0), but Washington led in shots on goal (7-5) and saves (7-3), as the Huskers dropped to 5-10-1 (2-7-1 Big Ten) on the season and Washington improved to 9-5-2 (6-4-0 Big Ten).
Nebraska was on the offensive attack early, as Sarah Weber tallied the opening two shots of the game, but it was Washington that recorded the first finish for either team. In the seventh minute, Ioanna Papatheodorou scored off assists from Samiah Shell and Kelsey Branson.
Going into the half, the Huskers held the lead in shots (14-7) and corners (4-0), while the Huskies tallied one more shot on goal (4-3). Individually, Weber led the way for the Huskers with six shots and freshman Reese Snowden added three of her own. Abbey Schwarz, Lauryn Anglim and Gwen Lane each recorded a shot on frame.
In the second half, the Huskers recorded 11 shots, including a few late chances to score, but Washington’s Alex Buck stretched the Huskie lead to 2-0 after a turnover in the Husker backfield in the 68th minute.
Weber’s nine shots on the day brings her career total to 330, just shy of Meghan Anderson in second place in the Husker record books. Overall, 10 Huskers recorded at least one shot, and two Huskers played the complete game, Haley Peterson and Anglim.
The Huskers wrap up regular season play as they welcome Indiana to Hibner Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27. Action is slated for 1:05 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
