Office of Nebraska State Treasurer Tom Briese
(Lincoln) Today Treasurer Tom Briese announced the launch of www.Givetoenable.com, a new, free-to-use crowdfunding website designed to help Enable Savings Plan owners achieve a better life experience.
Nebraska’s Enable Savings Plan was specifically designed to encourage persons with a disability to save for future qualified disability expenses. The Enable Savings Plan assists individuals who have a disability by providing sound investment choices for saving for the future.
Givetoenable.com will allow participants to raise needed funds through donations from family, friends, and others, similar to sites such as GoFundMe or Kickstarter. Funds donated through Givetoenable.com will go directly into the individual account owner’s Enable account and will not impact their benefits unlike a traditional crowdfunding webpage.
“Enable account owners are already at an economic disadvantage, and dealing with unexpected financial burdens hits the members of the disabled community hardest. Givetoenable.com is available for all Enable account owners and will allow them to raise additional funds to help cover their disability related expenses,” Briese said.
In addition, anyone who donates on the Givetoenable.com platform and files a Nebraska state income tax return will be able to take advantage of up to a $10,000 Nebraska income tax deduction ($5000 for married taxpayers filing separately). Contributions made to an Enable account from the website will count towards the annual $18,000 contribution limit.
In recognition of the launch of Givetoenable.com and the many advantages of qualified Nebraskans opening and contributing to an Enable Savings Plan, Governor Jim Pillen has also declared August as “Able to Save Month.”
