Story by NPHS Powerlifting
Two North Platte High School powerlifters competed at the OneUp Shamrock Classic in Lincoln, NE on Saturday, March 17. Senior Abby Dimmitt and Seth Penn, a junior, both placed second in their respective weight divisions against lifters from across the region. This was a USA Powerlifting sanctioned event, and was not limited to just high school competitors. NPHS coach Arttie Parker said, "This is a tough meet, and for two of our athletes to walk away with second place is a big accomplishment."
At the event, Dimmitt hit qualifying totals for USAPL Teen Nationals, and will be flying to Baton Rouge, LA to compete on April 6. Parker said, "This was huge for Abby. She didn't have her best meet of the year, but she really grinded through the events with a strategic plan for qualifying, which has been a goal of hers this year. We'll get back to work and get her ready to go to Louisiana. I'm incredibly proud of her effort and have no doubts that she will represent herself and the NPHS powerlifting team well at Nationals."
As for Penn, Parker stated, "Seth continues to impress, always pushing himself and his totals. He actually had the numbers to compete at USAPL Nationals, as well, but he is looking toward a regional meet in Wisconsin that is coming up in early June, I believe. Nationals is definitely in the cards for next year for Seth."
The NPHS Powerlifting team will be in action on April 6 in Orchard, NE at an AAU event that regularly draws lifters from across the state. This event will bring the team's season to an end, although several lifters have indicated they will also compete at this year's Cornhusker State Games in July.
