July 6, 2025 (Omaha, Neb.)  — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested two people following separate pursuits in eastern Nebraska Saturday.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Saturday, a trooper conducted a traffic stop near 24th and Himebaugh Avenue in Omaha on a Chevrolet Malibu. During the traffic stop, the driver refused to provide identification. The trooper used a mobile fingerprint scanner to identify the driver and learned that the driver had outstanding warrants. The driver then fled on foot.

The trooper pursued the driver on foot through a neighborhood and over two fences before taking the driver into custody. The trooper found a set of brass knuckles in the suspect’s pocket. An Omaha police officer arrived on scene and used an OPD cruiser to transport the suspect back to the trooper’s patrol unit. While in the OPD cruiser, the suspect swallowed a white powder.

The driver, Joseph Hamlin, 44, of Omaha, was medically cleared at Creighton University Medical Center and lodged in Douglas County Corrections for resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a weapon while committing a felony, tampering with physical evidence, driving with a revoked license, and two active warrants.

Saturday evening, at approximately 11:55 p.m., a trooper saw a Honda Accord speeding as it was traveling on Highway 370 near 132nd Street in Sarpy County. The trooper also noticed that the vehicle had expired license plates. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the Honda refused to yield and accelerated. The trooper initiated a pursuit.

The driver fled westbound on Interstate 80 toward Lincoln with speeds above 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit, additional troopers successfully deployed stop sticks to slow the vehicle. As the vehicle approached the Interstate 180 interchange in Lincoln, the vehicle slowed down and struck a road sign. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.

Dillon Murphy, 21, of Lincoln, was arrested for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension, and no valid registration. He was lodged in Sarpy County Jail.
