Minikel and Tran lead Creighton Women’s Tennis in Fall opener at Augustana Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Junior Olivia Minikel and sophomore Teresa Tran claimed the Flight 1 Doubles championship as the Creighton women’s tennis team closed out play at the Augustana Invite on Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Minikel and Tran opened the season with a perfect 3-0 record, capturing the Flight 1 Doubles title with a 6-2 win over South Dakota’s Sofia Issakova and Cassandra Marra in the semifinals before cruising to a 6-0 victory over Augustana’s AnaMaria Zoric and Mariia Bakhtina in the finals.

The duo of senior Elsa Jurrens and graduate transfer Ella Lewis teamed up for a 7-6 (7-2) semifinals win over Nebraska-Kearney’s Agustina Adbo and Kit Schrock but finished as the runner up in Flight 3 after dropping a 6-3 decision to Augustana’s Kristin Lucas Caceres and Martina Sofia Sfilio in the finals.

Juniors Karli Vo and Philippa Roy rallied from a semifinal loss in the Flight 2 with a 6-0 victory over Nebraska-Kearney’s Valentina Zamora and Hannah Klaiber to finish third.

Vo captured the Bluejays lone win in singles play as the Hawaii native upended Minnesota State-Mankato’s Lucie Sliskova, 8-0, to claim the Flight 4 Consolation title.

Creighton will take two weeks off before returning to the courts to host the Omaha Invitational on Sept. 25-26 at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
