Spearfish, S.D. – The Mid-Plains Community College men’s team continued their dominance as they brought home the team championship Saturday in Spearfish, S.D. The women’s team took home sixth in the overall standings.
"I am pleased with the performance of our student-athletes,” said Aukai Kaai, MPCC Rodeo Team roughstock coach. “There are several opportunities for our athletes to make the college finals. It will all come down to the short round in Lincoln this weekend."
The men continued to show why they are the best in the region as Kahiwa Augustiro placed first in bull riding, third in bareback and third in steer wrestling to claim the All-Around title.
Jackson Lunn rode to a second-place finish in bareback while Cinch Painter brought home a second-place finish in steer wrestling.
Team ropers Ryan Shepherd and partner Joey Boote (Dakota State University) secured the top spot in team roping while Clay Meyer and Sage Dieter finished fourth.
Emily Leach grabbed a first-place finish in breakaway while barrel racer Maggie Underhill notched a third-place finish in the average.
The MPCC rodeo team will round out the regular season at the Cornhusker Stampede in Lincoln, Neb. May 3-4.
