Grand Island Casino Resort is marking its one-year anniversary with a major milestone, reporting nearly $250 million in total economic impact since opening its permanent facility at Fonner Park in April 2025.

The $185 million development has quickly become one of the most significant economic drivers in central Nebraska. The resort currently employs 430 people, generating $16.4 million in annual wages and benefits. Since operations began in December 2022, total employee compensation has reached nearly $32 million.

Tax revenue tied to the resort has also grown substantially. Over the past year, it generated more than $3.8 million in city and county taxes and over $12 million in state gaming, sales, payroll and lodging taxes. Total tax contributions since late 2022 now exceed $35 million.

Local property owners have already seen some benefit. Hall County officials used $819,000 in gaming revenue to reduce the county property tax levy, resulting in an estimated savings of $10.94 per $100,000 of assessed valuation.

The resort’s growth has been fueled in part by strong gaming performance. Revenue reached $55 million in 2025, a 57 percent increase from the previous year. February 2026 alone brought in $5.6 million, marking an 85.5 percent increase compared to the same month a year earlier.

Officials say much of that revenue is coming from outside the immediate area, with about 70 percent of gaming dollars attributed to visitors from outside Grand Island. That influx of outside spending has helped boost the city’s broader economic momentum, contributing to its ranking among the fastest-growing metro areas in the country.

Beyond gaming, the resort has played a role in supporting local infrastructure and longstanding community assets. Efforts tied to the development helped facilitate a 1,000-space parking expansion at Fonner Park, which also hosts the Nebraska State Fair and other major events.

The facility has also contributed more than $13 million to support horse racing at Fonner Park, including funding for purses and breeder programs aimed at sustaining Nebraska’s Thoroughbred industry.

Grand Island Casino Resort operates year-round, offering a 24-hour casino, hotel accommodations, dining, and entertainment, and continues to position itself as a regional destination for both residents and visitors.
