Hastings, Neb. – The North Platte Community College volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by Hastings College JV on Thursday evening.
Nya Lual led the way with eight kills, while Ella Rotherham and Kathryn Folkers tallied three kills apiece. Rotherham and Trinity Beutler each added three service aces in the match.
North Platte fell behind early as ten straight points helped the Broncos garner the momentum in the opening set. Back-to-back service aces from Jaelyn Dicke helped cut the margin to seven midway through the set. Hastings settled back into rhythm to take the opening frame, 25-13.
Knights countered early in the second set, as a kill by Jocelyn Cheek helped North Platte take a 10-7 lead. A short rally evened the set at 14-14, before the Broncos took control of the set. Knights attempted to steal back the momentum, but Hastings never faltered down the stretch to take a two-set advantage.
Hastings continued to flex their strength, jumping out to a 7-4 lead. A 4-0 rally sparked the Knights offense as a kill by Folkers helped shift the momentum. Slowly the Broncos chipped away at the margin until they knotted it up at 14-14. The run continued late to aid in the Broncos sweep.
North Platte (3-11) will play a set of games on Friday beginning with Southwestern University JV. First serve is set for noon inside Nellis Hall in Coffeyville, Kan.
