NOVEMBER 24, 2025 (NORTH PLATTE, NEB.)&nbsp; —&nbsp; Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol conducted local alcohol compliance checks in Keith County.

During the afternoon hours of Sunday November 16, 2025, investigators conducted alcohol compliance checks in Keith County. In total, 10 businesses were checked. Of those businesses, 8 refused to sell alcohol to a minor for a compliance rate of 80 percent. All of the businesses checked the minor’s ID. One of the businesses that sold were also cited for allowing a minor to sell.

The businesses included convenience stores, restaurants, bars, and liquor stores. Businesses that sell alcohol to a minor are referred to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Clerks who sell alcohol to a minor are cited for procuring alcohol for a minor.

This project was funded (100%, $427,899.00) by the Region II Human Services Substance Use Prevention &amp; Treatment Block Grant (1B08TI088119-01) through SAMHSA, contracted through the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Alcohol Compliance Checks Held in Keith County

Kimball, Neb. — The Kimball Police Department has released details on three separate child-abuse-related arrests over the past week, outlining unrelated incidents investigated between November 15th and November 21st.

<b>November 15:</b>
Officers responded to a report of an assault in the 700 block of Chestnut Street. Following an investigation, police say probable cause was established to arrest 38-year-old Steven Nunley on a charge of child abuse. Officers attempted to contact Nunley at his residence, and after obtaining a search warrant, he exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. The Kimball County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

<b>November 19:
</b>Kimball officers responded to a report of child abuse in the 400 block of South Oak Street. A forensic interview conducted with Capstone in Gering and a joint response with DHHS led to the arrests of 31-year-old Becki Russi and 29-year-old Christopher Stewart. Russi faces three counts of child abuse; Stewart faces two. Both were arrested on scene. The Kimball County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

<b>November 21:</b>
Police opened an investigation involving suspected child sexual abuse material. Following the investigation, officers say they established probable cause to arrest 45-year-old Kenny Rogers. Rogers is charged under Nebraska Revised Statute 28-1803 with possession or receipt of child sexual abuse material.

In each case, the department noted that information is preliminary and may change as investigations continue. No additional details will be released to protect the integrity of the ongoing cases.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Kimball Police Issue Three Child Abuse-Related Arrest Announcements in One Week

Ogallala, Neb. -The Ogallala City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, at 411 East 2nd Street. Residents are invited to attend.

The council will start the evening with the appointment of a new member to fill a vacant seat. The meeting will also include approval of claims and the minutes from the November 11 meeting.

A key item on the agenda is a public hearing on a request for an in-home daycare at 1420 East 6th Street. Planning and Zoning officials will review the proposal.

During the public forum, the council will recognize Maureen Schumm for five years of service, hear an update from PeopleService Inc., and consider a request for financial support from Karen Lundquist and Jeryl Eastman after a sewage backup at 715 Valleyview Drive.

Other items include an ambulance service tiering agreement and a nuisance abatement rescission for 810 West 3rd Street. City staff will also provide updates on ongoing projects.

The meeting is open to the public, and written materials for discussion will be available for review at the meeting location.

Ogallala City Council Meeting Preview: Daycare Proposal, Sewage Damage Request, Council Vacancy on the Agenda

SIDNEY, Neb. — Three people were taken into custody Sunday morning after Sidney Police executed a drug-related search warrant at a home on the north side of town.

Officers served the warrant around 7:30 a.m. at a residence in the 400 block of North 14th Avenue. Police say the warrant was based on information developed from recent tips about possible drug activity at the home.

Nine Sidney Police officers and one Cheyenne County Sheriff’s deputy assisted in the operation. Five people were detained during the search. Two were released at the scene, and three were transported to the Cheyenne County Jail.

The three arrested individuals face felony drug and weapons charges. Their names have not yet been released.

Police say no children were found inside the residence and no injuries were reported during the search.

The case remains active, and authorities expect to release additional information as charges are formally filed.

<b>ALLIANCE, Neb.</b>&nbsp;- 16 young ladies from across the state gathered on Saturday night to compete in the Miss Alliance and Miss Alliance’s Teen pageant.&nbsp; 

Crowned Miss Alliance 2026 was Olivia Vanderford, the 20-year-old daughter of Jon and Taryn Vanderford of Lincoln, NE.&nbsp; Miss Alliance’s Teen 2026 was awarded to Halle Knutson, the 16-year-old daughter of Ryan and Sara Knutson of Scottsbluff.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Your new Miss Panhandle 2026 is Addilyn Wilson, the 20-year-old daughter of Francis and Andrea Wilson of Hershey, Nebraska.&nbsp; Wilson also received 2nd&nbsp;place in the Miss Community Service competition.&nbsp; Paige Dodson, the 17-year-old daughter of Kevin and Wendy Dodson of North Platte, earned the title of Miss Panhandle’s Teen 2026.&nbsp;Dodson received the overall teen talent award, the teen community service award, and was also voted as the Teen Miss Congeniality by her peers. 

Ally Parker, the 19-year-old daughter of Jay and Jennifer Parker of Omaha, has earned the title of Miss Niobrara River 2026.&nbsp; Parker also received the award for overall Miss talent on Saturday night.&nbsp; The Miss Audience Choice winner as well as the Miss 1st&nbsp;Place Community Service awards were earned by Mara Soto of Bridgeport.&nbsp; Soto is the 18-year-old daughter of Marlana Gomez and Alex Soto.&nbsp; Olivia Terwey, the 20-year-old daughter of Trevor and Abby Terwey of Hastings, was named Miss Alliance 1st&nbsp;Runner up.

Rounding out the final awards, Emma Jensen, the 13-year-old daughter of Heather and Todd Jensen of North Platte, was named the Teen Audience Choice winner and Hannah Henton, the 27-year-old daughter of Kris and Tom O’Brien and Jason Henton of Kimball, received the Miss Congeniality prize, voted on by the contestants.&nbsp;

Lexington, Neb. - Local leaders and community members are reacting with shock, frustration, and heartbreak following Tyson Foods’ announcement that it will permanently close its Lexington beef processing plant within the next two months—an economic anchor that has employed generations of families and fueled the region’s economy for decades.

The Lexington Chamber of Commerce said the news caught the community off guard and will leave a deep mark on families, businesses, and the broader local economy. Chamber leaders said their focus now is on supporting affected workers and working alongside partners to help connect families with resources, job opportunities, and guidance during the transition.

That sense of personal loss is being felt across Lexington. Local Realtor Stephanie Novoa said the emotional impact on the community is devastating. 

“My heart is absolutely shattered today,” she said. “As many of you have already heard, Tyson Foods—our largest employer and a place where so many families have built their lives—has announced that it will be closing its plant within the next two months.”

Novoa said the announcement touches every part of life in Lexington—businesses, housing, schools, and the families who call the community home.

LEXINGTON, Neb. — Nebraska’s elected leaders are voicing deep concern after Tyson Foods announced it will wind down operations at its beef-processing plant in Lexington, a move that will impact thousands of workers and a region long anchored by the facility.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer called the closure devastating for the community and the state’s beef industry.

“I am extremely disappointed by this news from Tyson today. As the single largest employer in Lexington, Tyson’s announcement will have a devastating impact on a truly wonderful community, the region, and our state,” Fischer said. She urged the company to prioritize families during the transition, adding, “As we head into the holiday season, I call on Tyson to do everything in its power to take care of the families affected by this short-sighted decision.”

Senator Pete Ricketts also expressed heartbreak over the timing and pledged to support affected families.


“I will do everything I can to support the Nebraskans who are impacted by the decision to close the Tyson Foods plant in Lexington. We must help them stay in our state and find work close to home,” Ricketts said. “This news is especially heartbreaking around the holidays. I ask for Nebraskans to keep the community of Lexington in their prayers.”

Congressman Adrian Smith described the announcement as a major loss for the region.

Tyson Foods to Close Lexington, Nebraska Beef Plant

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Country star Scotty McCreery will headline the 2026 Lincoln County Fair, officials announced Friday morning during an interview on Z 93.5 Country &amp; Q Country Classic's 107.3 with Derek Beck. McCreery is scheduled to perform Friday, July 24, with tickets going on sale at noon today.

Amanda Carr and April Fricke with the Lincoln County Fair Board revealed the news while discussing the momentum built from last summer’s record-setting Gary Allan concert — the largest show in fair history.

“We’re so excited to announce that we will have Scotty McCreery at the 2026 fair,” Carr said. “Tickets go on sale at noon today, so we don’t have to wait very long.”

General admission tickets are $45 and VIP tickets are $70, available at <a href="https://www.lincofair.com/">LinCoFair.com</a>. Fricke said VIP passes are limited and sold out quickly last year. “If this is something you want, don’t wait,” she said. “Get them today so you’re not upset tomorrow when they’re gone.”

Fair organizers said last year’s event drew standing-room-only crowds and prompted several improvements for 2026, including additional beer stations and expanded service areas in VIP sections.

“We had a few bumps in the road, but we’re making changes that people asked for,” Carr said. “It was the biggest concert we’ve ever had, and we hope to keep trending that way.”

The fair also unveiled a redesigned website and a new official Facebook page featuring the fair’s green-and-tan logo.

McCreery, 31, has been putting out hits since he started.&nbsp; His debut album, Clear as Day, made him the youngest male artist in any genre to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200. With more than 4 million albums sold, McCreery has earned six No. 1 hits, including “Five More Minutes,” “This Is It,” and his recent chart-topper “Cab in a Solo.”

He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry last year and continues to earn accolades, including multiple Platinum-certified singles, CMT Music Awards, and BMI songwriting honors. McCreery's most recent album is Rise &amp; Fall, and his current EP Scooter &amp; Friends includes the hit “Bottle Rockets” featuring Hootie &amp; The Blowfish.

Attendees gathered to recognize outstanding contributions to the county, with the evening filled with energy, joy, and a strong sense of community.

“This was an incredible evening celebrating the people and organizations who make our community such a special place to live, work, play, and grow,” the Chamber shared on social media. “The turnout was amazing, the energy was joyful, and the fellowship was exactly what this Chamber loves most — people coming together to honor the good happening all around us.”

Business of the Year: Always Kaffeinated


The 2025 Business of the Year honor went to Always Kaffeinated. Recipients Travis and Kim were recognized for their creativity, generosity, and the positive impact they bring to Keith County. From excellent customer service and thoughtful community support to unique bus tours and safe kayaking experiences, the Chamber said the couple’s entrepreneurial spirit shines in everything they do.

“Always Kaffeinated shows up, gives back, and brings a positivity that truly makes our community brighter,” the Chamber noted.

Service Organization of the Year: Outy Obsession LLC


Outy Obsession LLC received the Service Organization of the Year award for its dedication to youth, veterans, and community fundraising. In the past year alone, the organization provided outdoor experiences for more than 150 children and 70 veterans, all coordinated by two committed individuals.

“Their passion, generosity, and hands-on impact make a lasting difference in the lives of so many,” the Chamber said.

Business Professional of the Year: Mary Wilson


Mary Wilson was named Business Professional of the Year for her leadership, integrity, and dedication to the region. Her work with Keith County Area Development has strengthened the community through collaboration, innovation, and growth.

“Mary continually sets a high standard for professional excellence,” the Chamber said. “Thank you for your service, your leadership, and the heart you bring to our community.”

Drover of the Year: Sally Haythorn
Sally Haythorn earned the Drover of the Year award, joining the Chamber’s group of goodwill ambassadors who support local businesses, volunteer at events, and lead parades. Sally was recognized for her years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Drovers’ mission of representing the spirit of Keith County.

“Thank you, Sally, for your outstanding service, leadership, and dedication. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor,” the Chamber said.

FBI Releases Updated Seeking Information Poster on Hazardous Device in Nebraska

Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is reminding everyone that getting the pneumococcal vaccine can help protect you from serious illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated guidelines so that more people can now get this important shot starting at age 50.

Pneumococcal disease is caused by bacteria called&nbsp;<i>Streptococcus pneumoniae</i>.These bacteria can cause:

These illnesses can make people very sick and sometimes lead to death. Over the past year in the health district, 143 people have gone to the emergency room because of pneumonia. Each year about 900,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with pneumonia, which includes pneumococcal disease. About 150,000 of those will be hospitalized and about 41,000 people will die from pneumonia or a complication from pneumonia each year, according to data from the CDC.

The vaccine helps your body build protection, so you do not get as sick if you come into contact with these bacteria. It is especially important for:

Getting vaccinated keeps you, your family, and your community healthy. It also helps prevent hospital stays and serious complications.

There are a few different types of pneumococcal vaccines (PCV15, PCV20, PCV21, and PPSV23). Your doctor or pharmacist can help you choose the right one for you.

You can get the pneumococcal vaccine any time of year. It is often given during the same visit as your flu or COVID shot. If you have already received one type of pneumococcal vaccine, your healthcare provider can tell you if they recommend another type to boost your protection.

“Getting the pneumococcal vaccine is one of the best ways to stay healthy,” said Melissa Propp, Clinic Manager at SWNPHD. “If you’re age 50 or older, or have a health condition, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about getting vaccinated for pneumonia.”

The Hot Sheets: November 18, 2025

(Ogallala, Neb.)&nbsp;&nbsp;— The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a death that occurred at the Keith County Jail on Sunday.

Sunday evening, NSP was contacted by the Keith County Sheriff’s Office regarding a death that had occurred at the jail. Keith County Jail staff had located an inmate deceased inside a cell. The death appeared to be a suicide. There was no other person inside the cell at the time.

The inmate was identified as Dawson Reifschneider, 25. Reifschneider was being held in Keith County Jail while awaiting trial in Scotts Bluff County.

The Keith County Attorney’s Office has requested the Nebraska State Patrol conduct the grand jury investigation.

Keith County Jail staff had located an inmate deceased inside a cell. The death appeared to be a suicide. There was no other person inside the cell at the time.</p><p>The inmate was identified as Dawson Reifschneider, 25. Reifschneider was being held in Keith County Jail while awaiting trial in Scotts Bluff County.</p><p>The Keith County Attorney’s Office has requested the Nebraska State Patrol conduct the grand jury investigation.</p>

NSP Investigating Death at Keith County Jail

BIG SPRINGS, Neb. — Two people were arrested Friday morning after the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team executed a search warrant in Big Springs.

According to the Sheriff’s office, the warrant was served shortly after 9 a.m. at 604 Chestnut Street on November 14.

Deputies say Darrell Hyberg III, 26, and Taylor Grafford, 38, were taken into custody without incident. Both face multiple charges, including:

During the operation, South Platte School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. The sheriff’s office says the school was notified again once the scene was secure, and the lockdown was lifted.
