LINCOLN, NE&nbsp;– Governor Jim Pillen, in accordance with a request from the White House, announced that all U.S. and Nebraska flags be flown at half-staff to honor former first lady Rosalynn Carter. The order is effective Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, until sunset, on the day of Carter’s interment, Wednesday, Nov. 29.&nbsp;

The former first lady will be buried in Plains, Georgia, the hometown she shared with her husband, former President Jimmy Carter. She died on Nov. 19 at the age of 96.

Winter storm watch issued for portions of our area

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration students at North Platte Community College are now NC3-certified in variable speed motors.

To receive the Trane certification, the students had to go through a “hands-on” course led by a qualified instructor. Upon completion, the students took exams.

Among other things, they had to demonstrate an understanding of motor design and components; the applications and sequence of operation of various motors; proper service procedures; use of appropriate tools and test instruments and proper steps and techniques in troubleshooting motor issues.

According to the weather service, snow will develop Thursday night in northwestern Nebraska, then transition south into southwestern Nebraska through Saturday. Accumulations up to 6 inches are possible over the eastern panhandle and western Sandhills.

With the holiday season, shopping small is a great opportunity to get a once in a lifetime gift for someone special. This year, participating in business will be a part of a special passport that will be handed out Saturday.

PODCAST- Shop Small Saturday starts this weekend in Ogallala

&nbsp;(Lincoln, Neb.) — As Husker fans make their way to Memorial Stadium, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) urges drivers to prioritize safety on the road. Remember to buckle up as you navigate gameday and shopping traffic.&nbsp;

Wearing your seatbelt can save lives in rear-end collisions and other incidents, especially on high-traffic routes. Preparing for a fun day at Memorial Stadium should always include wearing your seatbelt the right way. Your seat belt should be placed across the middle of your chest, away from your neck, and across your hips, not your abdomen. Your seatbelt should never be behind your back or under your arm.&nbsp;

And once you’ve bucked up, put your phone down! At 55 miles per hour, sending or reading a text message takes the equivalent time of driving the entire length of a football field with your eyes closed. Your focus on the road is crucial for your safety and the safety of others.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Drivers should also prepare for potential traffic slowdowns before and after the game. NDOT recommends fans heading to the stadium consider the following routes:&nbsp;

Drivers traveling to Lincoln from the east should use the two left lanes on Interstate 80 (I-80) to allow traffic traveling to Nebraska Crossing to utilize the right lane.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Additionally, the southeast exit from Nebraska Crossing and the left turn lane on Nebraska Highway 31 will be closed.&nbsp;

When coming to the game, drivers arriving in Lincoln on I-80 from the west should take Exit 397 (south U.S. Highway 77 (US-77)) to Rosa Parks Way into downtown Lincoln. Drivers arriving in Lincoln on I-80 from the east should take Exit 401 to south Interstate 180 (I-180) into downtown Lincoln.&nbsp;

When leaving the game, drivers should avoid Exit 409 between Lincoln and Waverly as it may be closed due to safety concerns as heavy interstate traffic builds. This may significantly increase traffic on US-6 and cause slowdowns. Leaving downtown Lincoln immediately after the game can put you in heavy traffic. Spending some extra time in town may allow traffic to ease up and provide a smoother ride home.&nbsp;

Within Lincoln, there are several active City of Lincoln construction projects. More information can be found at the City of Lincoln’s street closures map. Fans are reminded that the University of Nebraska has implemented a clear bag policy to enter Memorial Stadium.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Drivers are encouraged to be patient, allow extra time to get to their destinations, plan ahead, and check www.511.nebraska.gov for real time traffic information. Stay safe – buckle up, phone down, avoid distractions, and adjust your speed and following distance if you encounter a slowdown. If drivers are in a crash during gameday traffic, move both vehicles to the shoulder, if possible, before reporting the incident.&nbsp;

The nomination deadline is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13.&nbsp;&nbsp;

This year’s prize sponsors are Schaben Sanitation, Menards, Brothers Tavern and Cody Keno.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

You have time to get things perfect in your yard: Entries will be judged Friday-Sunday, Dec.15-17. The lights must be on from 5-10 p.m. those nights and must be seen from the street.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The first-place winners from 2022 are ineligible to win a prize in 2023. Otherwise, everyone can compete.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Anyone can nominate a home — it can be your own. Submit the name of owner, address, brief description of the display, a photo (if possible), and any directions that might help locate the property.&nbsp;

The victim was Wilson George Coleman III, who had been shot in the chest, and later succumbed to his injuries.

Sunday, November 19, 2023, a suspect, Anibal Domingo Jr. was arrested and is currently incarcerated on the charges of Murder 2nd Degree, and Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony. This is an isolated event between known individuals. There is no further threat to the community.

NORTH PLATTE - The North Platte Optimist Club has announced that Christmas Trees will go on sale this Saturday, Nov. 25th. The North Platte Optimist Christmas Tree lot has moved to 300 E Leota. The tree lot will be open from Noon until 8:00pm every day.&nbsp;

At the lot, there is a wide variety of selection of Christmas Tree's including Scotch Pine, Douglas Fir, Balsam Fir and Fraser Firs. All money raised will help towards the North Platte Optimist Club's projects including the 4th of July Firework Show.&nbsp;

Kevin Kilmer, 27, was sentenced by Judge&nbsp;Mark&nbsp;Kozisek&nbsp;in Cherry County District Court, Valentine, Nebraska, for the 2021 murder of Ruth Wittmuss, 52, which occurred in Kilgore. The trial took place in August of this year.&nbsp;Kilmer was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder and an additional 10-14 years for the use of a weapon to commit a felony.&nbsp;

The case was investigated by the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office, the Nebraska State Patrol, with the assistance of the Valentine Police Department and other local agencies. The Cherry County Attorney’s office and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case.&nbsp;

Investigation revealed that Fredrick Evans, age 55 of Scottsbluff, was south bound on 14TH Ave from East 15TH Street driving in a black 2009 GMC pickup. The vehicle crossed over to the left side of the road and struck a red 2012 GMC pickup. 

The collision caused the black pickup to roll over ¼ times onto its right side. Evans was not wearing a seat belt. Police are investigating health conditions and alcohol use as protentional contributing factors. Scottsbluff Police Department was assisted on scene by Scottsbluff Fire Department, Valley Ambulance Service, and Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Deputies.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Scottsbluff Police Department respond to fatality traffic crash

OGALLALA - Wolf Auto Ogallala sponsored a Thanksgiving basket event for families in need during the Thanksgiving holiday. Donations were made by individuals and local businesses in the community. The OHS wrestling team came together to help put the goodies together for the Thanksgiving baskets.

Employees with Allo Fiber and community members helped deliver the baskets to families.&nbsp; Families are usually referred by a outside agency such as DHHS, SCIP, and CASA. This year, 80 families were gifted with a basket. Each basket were estimated to be around $85.

Donations were made by individuals and local businesses in the community. The OHS wrestling team came together to help put the goodies together for the Thanksgiving baskets.<figure>

 </figure>Employees with Allo Fiber and community members helped deliver the baskets to families.&nbsp; Families are usually referred by a outside agency such as DHHS, SCIP, and CASA. This year, 80 families were gifted with a basket. Local
