Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White met with members of the media following Thursday’s practice.

He discussed the linebacker room and replacing Nick Henrich and Luke Reimer.

“Without those two guys, you’ve got guys like Mikai (Gbayor), you’ve got Javin (Wright) – Buddha – (John) Bullock. Last year he learned how to play safety and linebacker. So far this spring, he has really stepped it up. He is a linebacker. I think you can see in the speed of how he’s playing in practice, how comfortable he’s starting to get. He’s just seeing things a little faster, he’s a little bit more aggressive on the ball. Then you’ve got those other guys starting to show up – Jacob Bower is doing a really nice job, he’s starting to flash and show. Gage Stenger, Stefon Thompson, he’s worked himself into shape. He knows the defense and he’s starting to put things together. You’ve got a lot of guys who are starting to come up, but again, it’s all about the buildup to Saturday. Because Saturday is just like a game and that’s where you really get a chance to say ‘this is who I am.’"

He spoke on the defensive standard, his and his staff’s intensity and how the players handled it.

“You’re never good enough. The really cool thing – after the scrimmage, when we came back and watched it, coaches got on me because it wasn’t good enough. It just wasn’t good enough. We went back and we looked, because this group of guys in the locker room, they do what you ask. These guys are blue collar. They make coaching fun. I looked at it and we went back as a defensive staff and asked ‘how can we do this?’ We tweaked some things on defense and explained to them. I apologized and said ‘hey guys, this is my fault. This is what we want to look like, this is what we want to do’ and showed them, actually showed them. Tuesday, they went out there and they ran around with their hair on fire, and I was like ‘wow.’ I think everybody was like ‘holy cow, what’s going on?’ Then today, to start off, they had the same attitude toward it. I had to apologize to the guys. It was my fault. It was really fun to watch those guys – Jimari (Butler), (John) Bullock, Giff (Isaac Gifford), those guys, go out there with a little chip on their shoulder and fly around. You’re never good enough. You’re always tweaking something, trying to challenge somebody. You’re always trying to make sure that guys are getting better. When coach jumped us for that, it was a great thing. We were able to redefine some things.”

White also talked about how the veteran players handled his intensity, and what it says about the culture that they also took accountability.&nbsp;

“That’s 100% those guys. They’ll do whatever is asked of them. I can’t talk enough about those guys. When I apologized to them and we showed them, they went out and they did it. They started to do it. It was really neat for them to do it on Tuesday and then go out there today and have that same attitude. Now, what coaching is is fixing things, making adjustments, seeing why certain guys did something, but really working on the confidence. Really working on the ‘when you step on that grass, you just let it go. Let it go and go play.’

Huskers DC Tony White speaks on Defensive intensity

The Nebraska softball team travels to Ann Arbor this weekend for a pivotal three-game series with Michigan in a battle of two of the top three teams in the Big Ten standings.

Michigan (30-14) enters the weekend in second place in the Big Ten standings with an 11-3 conference record. Nebraska (25-16) is third in the standings with an 8-3 Big Ten record. In addition to trying to improve their conference standing, Michigan and Nebraska are also looking to strengthen their position for a potential at-large NCAA Tournament berth.&nbsp;

Both the Huskers and Wolverines are in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI and each school has claimed its highest RPI ranking of the season this week. Nebraska is No. 44 in the RPI heading into Friday’s game after a season-high ranking of No. 43 on Tuesday. Michigan brings a season-high RPI ranking of 50 into this weekend’s series.

Including this weekend’s series, Nebraska has three challenging weekend series remaining on its conference schedule. After taking on second-place Michigan this weekend, the Huskers will host league-leading Northwestern next weekend. NU then closes the regular season with a three-game series at Minnesota, which is fifth in the Big Ten standings.

Huskers Showing Comeback Ability in 2024Nebraska has shown a knack for coming from behind this season. The Huskers have trailed in 15 of their 25 wins, including nine times when Nebraska came back from a multi-run deficit.

Nebraska Leading the Big Ten in Extra-Base HitsNebraska has hit 76 doubles, five triples and 46 home runs for a total of 127 extra-base hits this season. That total leads the Big Ten and two Huskers rank in the top five in extra-base hits.

Kinney Pitching Well Despite Increased WorkloadKaylin Kinney has pitched in 31 of Nebraska’s 41 games (76 percent), ranking 15th nationally in appearances. Kinney has pitched in 13 of Nebraska’s last 14 games and in 10 of the Huskers’ 11 Big Ten Conference games. She has started 14 games and thrown 122.2 innings this season after combining for 14 starts and 114.1 innings in her first three seasons.

Billie Andrews Breaks Husker Home Run RecordBillie Andrews ranks 10th nationally in home runs per game (0.4) with 15 homers in 37 games. She is Nebraska’s all-time home run leader with 58 career homers.

Billie Andrews Becomes second Husker In 40-40 ClubBillie Andrews has joined Jennifer Lizama as the only players in program history to hit 40 career home runs and steal 40 career bases. With three more stolen bases, Andrews would become the first Husker with 50 career home runs and 50 career stolen bases.

Billie Andrews Moving Into Big Ten Record BookBillie Andrews’ production at the plate is leaving its mark in the Big Ten record book. Andrews already finds herself on the Big Ten’s all-time home runs list and she is also looking for a place on the Big Ten’s career slugging percentage top 10.

Billie Andrews Among Nation’s Extra-Base Hit LeadersBillie Andrews ranks third in school history with 96 career extra-base hits, including 26 this season. Forty-three percent of her career hits have gone for extra bases.

Scouting Michigan (30-14, 11-3)Michigan won its 30th game of the season Wednesday, defeating in-state rival Michigan State, 5-1. The Wolverines are 30-14 and have won six straight games. Michigan is in second place in the Big Ten standings with an 11-3 conference record. The Wolverines have swept every Big Ten series with the exception of Northwestern in the first weekend of April, when the first-place Wildcats swept Michigan.

Nebraska and Michigan share seven common opponents this season in Cal State Fullerton, Illinois, Long Beach State, Maine, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State and UCLA. The Huskers posted a 9-2 record against that group while Michigan went 5-4.

Michigan is 10-0 at home as the Wolverines are one of only 14 teams with a perfect home record in 2024. Dating back to last year Michigan has won 12 straight home games.

The Wolverine offense has come alive over the second half of the season. In the first 19 games this season, Michigan averaged only 3.0 runs per game. She also ranks second on the team with 30 RBIs. Tholl is the reigning co-Big Ten Player of the Week after she went 7-for-12 with five home runs in five games last week.</li><li>Jenissa Conway is one of the top power threats in the Michigan lineup, as she has five doubles, four triples, eight home runs and 26 RBIs.</li><li>Ella Stephenson is the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week after she went 8-for-19 (.421) with five runs and five RBIs in five games last week. Stephenson is hitting .244 on the year.</li><li>In the circle, Lauren Derkowski and Erin Hoehn have been the Wolverines’ primary pitchers this season, combining to throw 76 percent of the team’s innings.</li><li>Derkowski is 12-7 with three saves and a 2.37 ERA in 132.2 innings. Derkowski ranks second in the Big Ten in innings and strikeouts (143) and fourth in ERA. Nationally, Derkowski ranks 27th nationally in strikeouts.</li><li>Hoehn is 14-4 with two saves and a 3.14 ERA in 84.2 innings. She leads the team in wins and opponents are hitting just .218 against her.</li><li>Jessica LeBeau (2-2, 2.97 ERA in 37.2 IP), Hannah George (2-1, 2.59 ERA in 24.1 IP) and Emerson Aiken (0-0, 8.40 ERA in 5.0 IP) round out the Michigan staff.</li><li>Bonnie Tholl is in her second season as Michigan’s head coach after previously spending 29 years as a Wolverine assistant coach. Tholl has guided Michigan to a 56-39 record in her two seasons as head coach.</li><li>Overall, Tholl is in her 31st season on the Michigan staff in 2024. She has helped the Wolverines win the 2005 national championship, 22 Big Ten regular-season championships and 10 Big Ten Tournament titles in her time as a Wolverine coach.</li>

McConnaughey Named B1G Pitcher of the Week

• Sophomore Mason McConnaughey was named the Big Ten’s Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyle Schwarber hit two home runs, including the 250th of his career, Cristopher Sánchez pitched six strong innings and the Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep with a 7-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night.

Trea Turner homered, doubled and singled for the Phillies, who moved a season-best three games over .500. Philadelphia has won 13 of its last 15 against the Rockies.

“There are nights where you have to battle and play small ball, and there are nights like tonight,” Turner said. “Tonight was fun.”

Ezequiel Tovar had three hits and drove in two runs for Colorado, which dropped to 4-15 — tied with Miami for the worst record in the NL.

Schwarber blasted his milestone shot 432 feet leading off the first inning against Ryan Feltner (1-2). He went deep again in the sixth, driving a 94 mph fastball from Peter Lambert off the facing of the second deck in right field, 411 feet from home plate, to make it 7-1.

The Philadelphia slugger is happy to clear the fence, but isn't focused on milestones.

“I think they mean a little more when it's done and you're on the couch watching baseball,” Schwarber said.

Sánchez (1-2) recovered from a shaky first inning to strike out 10 and walk one while allowing five hits. Colorado’s lone run against the lefty was unearned.

José Alvarado pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.

The game was played on a cool, misty night that felt much colder than the game-time temperature of 60 degrees.

Colorado pulled within one with five runs in the eighth off Gregory Soto and Jeff Hoffman. All five runs were charged to Soto, who gave up three singles and two walks to six batters. Tovar’s two-run single off Hoffman made it 7-6, but the right-hander got Brenton Doyle to line out sharply to right to end the threat.

“That’s our group. That doesn’t surprise me,” Rockies manager Bud Black said of the near comeback. “This is a great group of competitors. We’re falling short right now. But they won’t melt. They’ll keep fighting and these things will turn.”

The Rockies scored first for just the second time this season on Elias Díaz’s RBI groundout in the first.

But the Phillies answered with four runs in the bottom half. Turner followed Schwarber’s drive to right with a solo shot to left. J.T. Realmuto added an RBI single and Alec Bohm an RBI double.

“I thought we really swung the bats good tonight,” Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson said. “It was a good night offensively.”

Rockies: Placed OF/INF Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain. The 32-year-old Bryant missed the last three games after crashing into the outfield wall to make a catch in Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The move was retroactive to April 14. The Rockies recalled outfielder Sean Bouchard from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Bryant’s place.

Rockies: Colorado returns home to play Seattle on Friday, with Rockies RHP Dakota Hudson (0-3, 4.15) facing Mariners RHP Emerson Hancock (1-2, 7.98).

Phillies: After an off day, the Phillies open a three-game home series against the White Sox on Friday with Philadelphia RHP Spencer Turnbull (1-0, 1.80) opposing Chicago LHP Garrett Crochet (1-2, 3.57).

Schwarber belts two blasts for Phillies in sweep of Rockies 7-6

The Nebraska men’s basketball team added one of the top players in the 2023 recruiting class as Gavin Griffiths will join the Husker program for the 2024-25 season. Griffiths, a 6-foot-8, 193-pound guard from Simsbury, Conn., played at Rutgers last season and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

A top-50 recruit coming out of high school, Griffiths gives the Huskers size and shooting ability on the wing, as he was third among Big Ten freshmen in 3-pointers in 2023-24 according to CBB Reference.&nbsp;

Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg believes that Griffiths has the potential to flourish on the Husker roster.

“Gavin is an elite shooter with deep range,” Hoiberg said. “Spacing is so important in our system, and his skillset fits what we are looking for. He handles the ball well and possesses the length and athleticism to give us flexibility and positional size in our lineup. Gavin has a year of Big Ten experience under his belt, and you could see his confidence grow over the course of last season, especially in the last month when he shot 37 percent from 3-point range.”

Griffiths played in all 32 games for Rutgers, averaging 5.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while playing just under 18 minutes per contest during the 2023-24 campaign.&nbsp; He was second on the Scarlet Knights with 31 3-pointers, while ranking third on the team in blocked shots (13) while coming off the bench for a majority of the season.&nbsp; He closed the year playing his best basketball, averaging 11.3 points and 3,5 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from 3-point range over Rutgers’ final four contests. He had three double-figure efforts in that stretch, including 14 at Wisconsin, 10 at Nebraska and a team-high 16 in a start against Maryland in Big Ten Tournament. He finished with seven double-figure efforts as a true freshman, highlighted by a 25-point against Boston University. In that contest, he went 9-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range. He had nine games with multiple 3-pointers, including a season-high four against Wisconsin. He had at least three rebounds in each of Rutgers’ final seven games, including a season-high six caroms at No. 2 Purdue.

Griffiths was a consensus top-50 recruit in 2023 and was a four-star recruit by all four major recruiting services. He played at Kingswood-Oxford High School where he averaged 24.6 points and 12 rebounds per game as a senior. For his efforts, he was chosen as the&nbsp;New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Player of the Year in Class B Basketball. He was the No. 2 player in the state of Connecticut as a senior by 24/7 Sports, ESPN.com and On3 in the class of 2023. He averaged 24.0 points, eight rebounds, and four assists during his junior season. He played on the AAU circuit with Expressions Elite and shot 40.6 percent from three-point range on 11.3 attempts per 40 minutes at the 2022 Nike EYBL Peach Jam.

He comes from a basketball family, as both his parents played college basketball at Hartford. His father, Larry, is a member of the school’s Hall of Fame after totaling 1,181 points and 694 rebounds during his career from 1987 to 1991, while his mother, Karen, played at Hartford from 1998 to 1992.

Husker Basketball adds Gavin Griffiths to 2024-25 roster

KEARNEY, NE–&nbsp;The Tri-City Storm won its opening round series over the Sioux Falls Stampede Wednesday night at the Viaero Center with an 8-3 victory. The Storm won the final two games of the Best-Of-Three series after dropping the opening game of the series in overtime on Monday night. Artemi Nizameyev recorded the fourth postseason hat trick in franchise history on Wednesday night after teammate Jake Rozzi scored three goals in Monday’s opening game of the playoffs. Nolan Roed (2), Owen Beckner (2), and Nick Roukounakis also scored for Tri-City in Wednesday’s victory.

The Storm will now advance to play the Anderson Cup Champion Fargo Force in a Best-Of-Five Series in the Western Conference Semifinal Round of the 2024 Clark Cup Playoffs. The series will begin Saturday night at 6:05pm CT at Scheels Arena. The second game of the series will also be played on the Force’s home ice at 7:05pm CT on Monday night. The series will move to the Viaero Center for Game #3 on Wednesday, April 24th. Game #4 (If Necessary) will be played on Thursday, April 25th&nbsp;at 7:05pm CT. Cameron Korpi made 25 saves on 28 shots to record the win in net for Tri-City. Christian Manz stopped 13 of 19 shots faced, and dropped the game in net for Sioux Falls. Manz was replaced in goal by Michael Chambre following the Storm’s sixth scoring play of the night. Chambre finished the game by making 9 saves on 11 shots. &nbsp;

Tri-City finished the matchup 1/6 on the powerplay, and 6/8 on the penalty kill. Artemi Nizameyev’s hat trick earned him 1st&nbsp;Star honors with teammates Owen Beckner and Nolan Roed collecting 2nd&nbsp;and 3rd&nbsp;Star honors, respectively.

Storm wins opening round series over Stampede

North Platte, Neb. – North Platte Community College had four men’s golfers finish in the top 10 at the Nebraska Junior College Invite on Wednesday. Knights finished just eight shots back from eventual winner McCook Community College.

Jayden Jones&nbsp;wrapped up the tournament with a round of 74, as he finished second amongst the collegiate golfers in the field. David Winkelmann (+6), Taytom Timbers (+7) and Cole Kramer (+8) each finished one stroke apart to finish in the top 10.

Treyten York&nbsp;carded a round of 80 (+9) to tie for 11th place, while Caeson Clarke rounded out the Knights golfers with a round of 82 (+11).

Knights will get a few weeks off to prepare for the three-day district championship tournament beginning on Sunday, May 5. The location for the tournament will be determined by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Four Knights players finish in the top 10 at Nebraska Junior College Invite

Four runs in the top of the ninth inning sank Nebraska in a 6-4 loss vs. Creighton on Tuesday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (23-11) scored four runs on six hits, while Creighton (27-7) totaled six runs on nine hits.

Josh Caron led the Big Red, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, home run and a pair of RBI. Cole Evans and Tyler Stone drove in the Huskers other two runs, while Clay Bradford doubled. Dylan Carey and Ben Columbus each added a hit.

Caleb Clark went two innings and tied a career-high with four strikeouts in his third start of the season. Kyle Froehlich allowed a pair of runs, before Ty Horn and Tucker Timmerman each turned in a scoreless frame. Casey Daiss surrendered a solo home run, while Kyle Perry shouldered his first loss of the season.

After three scoreless innings, Creighton plated the first run of the night with Teddy Deters’ wind-aided solo homer into the left-field berm to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead in the fourth.

Columbus reached on a one-out walk, while Stone's two-out RBI single off the top of the wall in left brought the Big Red within two. Bradford lifted a pinch-hit double off the wall in left field to put runners on second and third with the go-ahead run at the plate, but a strikeout ended the Huskers' rally and clinched the 6-4 win for the visitors.

Noah Eyre netted the only goal of Tuesday's opening period to give the Stampede a 1-0 advantage in the matchup. Eyre’s goal was his first of the postseason, and was netted at 8:34 of the 1st&nbsp;period. Hunter Anderson collected an assist on the scoring play. The Storm outshot the Stampede by a 16-5 margin in the opening period, but trailed 1-0 entering Tuesday’s middle period.

Cam Briere tied the game for the Storm with a powerplay goal fifty-three seconds into the 2nd&nbsp;period. Jake Rozzi and Owen Beckner each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Jaksen Panzer netted his first goal of the postseason with under six minutes to play in Tuesday’s 2nd&nbsp;period to give Sioux Falls a one-goal advantage in the matchup. The Storm was outshot 5-4 during the 3rd&nbsp;period, but outshot the Stampede by a 31-17 margin during regulation time.

Tri-City successfully killed off a penalty assessed to Philippe Blais-Savoie for cross checking at 4:38 of the overtime period, and went on the powerplay at 10:09 of the period when the Stampede’s Egor Barabanov was given a two-minute penalty for tripping. Owen Beckner deflected a shot from Seth Constance past Sioux Falls netminder Christian Manz at 11:14 of the extra period to win the game for the Storm. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Seth Constance and Jake Rozzi. Beckner’s scoring play was the game-winning goal of Tuesday night’s game, and forced a decisive Game 3 at the Viaero Center on Wednesday night. Tri-City was outshot 5-4 in the overtime, but outshot Sioux Falls by an overall margin of 36-23 during Tuesday’s contest.

Cameron Korpi collected the win in goal for the Storm after making 21 saves on 23 shots in just over 71 minutes of gametime. Christian Manz dropped the game in net for the Stampede in a 33-save-on-36-shot performance.

Storm wins overtime thriller to force Game #3

Nebraska football head coach Matt Rhule met with members of the media following the team’s spring practice on Tuesday.&nbsp;

He spoke to how the team handled the scrimmage on Saturday, particularly the quarterback room.

“I thought they were really good. It’s a really hard defense to go against. I thought we protected the ball well, which is the first thing. We’re on a mission to be in the positive territory in turnover margins. I think there was only one turnover on the day, through a lot of reps. I thought they handled all the pressures, I thought they adjusted to the different things. The biggest thing is just getting into the stadium for the first time. I put crowd noise on, so you can’t have coaches out there like ‘no, cut your split!’. Coaches are the worst, they always want to tell guys what to do. So I put crowd noise on so they couldn’t hear from the sideline. We just wanted to test the guys and see what they knew. There’s a lot of things to work on, but a lot of positive things. I think we’ve made a lot of strides in a short amount of time.”

He talked about the transfer portal opening today and how he balances spring practice with the portal.

“I think, if anybody on our team wants to go into the portal, it’s open today. That’s their right. Obviously, no one has yet. I don’t anticipate anybody going in. When we get done with spring, a couple guys will have a couple days to see if something is best for them. Our guys are really transparent. We’ve had players on our team already have people from other teams contact them. They’ll come in, walk in and say ‘coach, look at this’ and show us the text message. It’s a sad state of college football, but the problem isn’t the players. Let me start there, the problem isn’t the players. I love our guys. I want everyone to be here. But I also want them – we had guys transfer to other places last year – I’ve talked to their coaches, talked to them, and asked how they’re doing. Once you’ve played for me, you’ve played for me for life. Maybe it’s a unique challenge in terms of some guys, but we’re pretty transparent with our guys. If they want to come talk to us, we’re here to talk to them. I ask coaches after scrimmages to meet with guys one on one, I’m always available. I just don’t think it’s prudent – maybe this is pollyannaish – I don’t think it’s prudent for me to coach guys while thinking about the portal. The worst thing you can ever do for a young person is not have high standards for them and not push them to greatness. If you’re afraid of pushing them because they might go to the portal, then you probably don’t have the right guy anyway. Things will happen, good, bad, but we’re just going to coach the guys and try to get the team better and pour everything we have into our players, both on the field and off the field, and personally. If something happens, it happens.”

Rhule discussed the physicality level during spring practice.

“I don’t think about it. We practice. We’re not going to have a tag-off scrimmage. There’s a lot of days where we thud, we don’t tackle to the ground. Our tackling to the ground reps are at a minimum, but we’re 5-7. We’re 5-7 until we change that. We have an amazing fanbase and a lot of positive stuff around us all the time, excited for the new year. We’re 5-7 until we're not. If we were 11-1, I’d be like ‘hey, we lost a game,’ and if we were 12-0, I’d say ‘that doesn’t count.’ We are always going to practice physically. How do you master your craft in this game if you don’t do it? A lot of people win in a lot of different ways. I’m not in any way talking about anyone else. I’m just talking about for us – I want to take great young people, I want to watch them get a degree, maybe two degrees, have a great experience here, but I also want to develop pro players. And to me, lifting is great and running is great and teaching them the game is great, but they’ve got to practice and play. So we are really physical. We put the guardian caps on this year, which I’m really excited about, but we’re going to get guys banged up. Guys are going to get hurt. What I do believe – and I believe this with all my heart – if guys learn to play full speed, the injuries get reduced. We try to do everything we can – we put grass in – everything we can to minimize the injuries. We have some soft tissue stuff, we have some guys that got hurt from the season, but we’ve had nothing happen this year other than Leslie (Black) – and he’ll be back – that would affect the fall. Our job is to make sure we have a good team. We’re 5-7. We have to practice.”

Rhule shares post-scrimmage thoughts

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Cristian Pache hit a walk-off single with one out in the 10th inning after Bryce Harper made a leaping, run-saving catch in the top of the frame to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.

Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rockies-freeland-hurt-532d13a6fa0b25175e2cde2048119295">appeared to injure his right, non-throwing shoulder</a>&nbsp;while being used as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning.

Seranthony Domínguez (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning. Harper made a leaping grab of Elehuris Montero’s liner that likely would’ve scored automatic runner Nolan Jones from second base.

With Bryson Stott starting on second base in the bottom of the frame, Whit Merrifield moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Jake Bird (0-1) got pinch-hitter Alec Bohm to ground out to the drawn-in shortstop before Pache laced the first pitch he saw to right field to score Stott. Pache was in the game after pinch-running for slugger Kyle Schwarber in the eighth.

After finishing with a club-record 103 losses last season, Colorado dropped to 4-13 to continue its struggles. The Rockies have scored first just once this season.

Monday’s game was played on a gorgeous, wind-free 77-degree evening after a slew of cold, rainy nights to start the home portion of Philadelphia’s season.

Freeland, Colorado’s opening day starter, entered with two outs and the game tied a 1-all after Elias Diaz doubled. He went to third on a wild pitch by Jeff Hoffman and then tried to score after another Hoffman pitch got past catcher J.T. Realmuto.

But Realmuto threw to Hoffman covering, who tagged out Freeland. The Rockies pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NBCSPhilly/status/1780040716233642409">immediately grabbed his right shoulder,</a>&nbsp;which he used to brace himself during the slide, and headed to the clubhouse with a Colorado trainer.

Replays confirmed home-plate umpire D.J. Rayburn’s out call on the field.

The Rockies were short-handed with Kris Bryant (back stiffness) and Brendan Rodgers (illness) sidelined.

Freeland is 0-3 with a 13.21 ERA. He is not scheduled to pitch in this three-game series.

Every player on both clubs wore the No. 42 on his jersey as per&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jackie-robinson-day-mlb-46a60b7baf151661fd6147e7feb0acdb">tradition on Jackie Robinson Day</a>&nbsp;in honor of Robinson’s breaking of the color barrier in baseball on April 15, 1947.

Rockies: OF/INF Bryant was not in the lineup for the second straight day after getting injured on Saturday in Toronto when crashed into the outfield wall to make a catch. … 2B Rodgers was removed from the original lineup and replaced by Alan Trejo.

North Platte, Ne - Joe Bellm, CEO and promoter of BST announced Monday afternoon that the double -header opening weekend dirt races that were planned for this Friday &amp; Saturday have been postponed due to forecasted temperatures in the 40's this weekend.&nbsp;

It was going to be an epic weekend of Sprint Cars with former World of Outlaws champ Sammy Swindell planning to be in North Platte for the weekend. Bellm said "we're postponing this because of the fan experiance". He said "no fans want to sit out in the cold and watch cars go in circles when its likely colder than 40's being that we race at night".&nbsp;

The double header will likely be postponed until May 17 &amp; 18, also a Friday/Saturday and the Northern &amp; Southern Plains ASCS Sprint cars&nbsp; are open that weekend and Bellm believes it may be a better weekend for racing anyway. Stay tuned to Eagle Radio for dates.&nbsp;

The next racing at Lincoln County Raceway will be on May 4th in North Platte which will be "Nascar Night". Former Nascar drivers Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader are scheduled to race that night in North Platte. Racing at Lincoln County Raceway this weekend postponed due to forecast

This round of the postseason is a Best-of-Three series, with the higher seed hosting all three games. Game #2 of the series will also be played tomorrow in Kearney, and the Storm will host a third game at the Viaero Center on Wednesday, if necessary. All games in Tri-City’s opening-round of the 2024 Clark Cup Playoffs are scheduled to begin at 7:05pm CT.Tickets to any game in the series may be purchased online by skating to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stormhockey.com/" target="_blank">www.StormHockey.com</a>, or by calling the Viaero Center Box Office during Box Office hours at 308-338-8144.&nbsp;All non-first-row seats are available for only $7 per game. The winner of this week’s series at the Viaero Center between the Stampede and the Storm will advance to play the Anderson Cup Champion Fargo Force in a Best-Of-Five series in the Conference Semifinal Round of the postseason.Tri-City (0-0, 4th&nbsp;Seed) embarks on a postseason Clark Cup quest for the final time under 7th-year Head Coach Anthony Noreen. The Storm’s winningest Head Coach in franchise history was announced as the new Head Coach at Miami (OH) (NCAA DI) on Monday, April 1st, 2024. Coach Noreen will continue to guide the Storm until its final game in this year’s edition of the Clark Cup Playoffs. Tri-City never failed to qualify for the playoffs under Coach Noreen, and has twice advanced to the Western Conference Finals round of the postseason. This year’s opening-round series between the Storm and the Stampede is a rematch of the 2019 Western Conference Finals. Sioux Falls completed a three-game sweep over Tri-City in the five-game series, and won eleven of twelve games overall en route to a Clark Cup title.The Storm finished the 2023-2024 regular season with an overall record of 28-23-4-7, and earned the 4th&nbsp;seed on the Western Conference side of the postseason bracket. It was the thirteenth time in the organization’s twenty-four seasons that Tri-City posted twenty-eight or more wins in a single regular season. This was the sixth time in seven seasons under Coach Noreen that the Storm reached the twenty-eight-win plateau. The pandemic-shortened 2019-2020 season was the only season that Tri-City did not win at least twenty-eight games, and did not participate in a postseason (no playoffs contested), under Coach Noreen. August Falloon scored each of the Storm’s goals, including the game-winner at 2:26 of the overtime period to give Tri-City a 2-1 victory on September 21st, 2023. Brandt Harper scored the first goal of his USHL career at 4:08 of the 1st&nbsp;period on October 13th, 2023, in a road game for Tri-City at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, and Cameron Korpi recorded a twenty-six save shutout in a 1-0 win for the Storm in another memorable game of the regular season series. The Storm won seven of eight games contested in last year’s series against the Stampede, and Tri-City has produced an overall record of 24-7-2-2 in games played against Sioux Falls over the past five seasons. The Storm has won thirteen of the last eighteen games played against the Stampede at the Viaero Center in Kearney.Scoring leaders for Tri-City in the sixty-two-game regular season included Trevor Connelly (31), Ryan Smith (24), Cam Briere (22), Artemi Nizameyev (16), August Falloon (16), A.J. Lacroix (15), Jake Rozzi (14), and Owen Beckner (14). August Falloon led the Storm in game-winning goals during the regular season (6). Tri-City’s powerplay finished the regular season at 21.5%, tenth best in the league. Tri-City’s penalty kill completed the regular season at 79.0%, and was top-five in the USHL. The Storm finished the year 18-14-1-5 when outshooting its opponents, and 10-8-3-2 when outshot by the opposition. Tri-City completed the regular season with a record of 10-6-4-7 in one-goal games, and 16-9-1-4 in games played on home ice at the Viaero Center.Sioux Falls (0-0, 5th&nbsp;Seed) learned its opening-round playoff opponent on Saturday night at the conclusion of the regular season. The Stampede completed the regular season with a final record of 28-28-5-1. Sioux Falls finished the year by winning four of its last ten games played, including a 6-5 shootout decision over Tri-City at the Viaero Center on Friday, April 5th, 2024. Tonight’s game holds special significance for the Stampede, as it is the first playoff game since the organization captured the 2019 Clark Cup Championship on May 17th, 2019, in a 5-1 victory over the Chicago Steel at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Illinois. Tonight’s contest will be the first playoff game played by Sioux Falls in 1,795 days after the team failed to qualify for the last three editions of the Clark Cup Playoffs.The Stampede posted wins over the Storm on three occasions during the 2023-2024 regular season. Sioux Falls won a 3-2 home decision on October 8th, 2023, a 5-4 overtime decision on home ice on January 30th, 2024, and most recently, a 6-5 shootout decision on April 5th, 2024, at the Viaero Center. The Stampede blasted the Fargo Force in an 8-1 win at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center last Saturday night in the organization’s final game of the regular season.
