1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors met for its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Room 213 of McMillen Hall on the McCook Community College Campus, 1205 E. Third St., McCook, Neb.
Board Vice Chair Kim Korgan started the meeting with a roll call. In addition to Korgan, those present were MPCC President Ryan Purdy and Board members: Jo Etta Brown, Kirk Crawley, Kim Korgan, Kent Miller, Ernie Mehl, Tyler Pribbeno and Tricia Schaffer. Board members Matthew Broz, Cynthia Duncan, Ted Klug Jr., and Ben Lashley were absent and excused.
NPCC student trustee Jaelyn Dicke and MCC student life secretary Kyler Cox were also present.
2. OPEN FORUM (Comments from students, faculty, staff, public and Board)
- NPCC student trustee Jaelyn Dicke reported on activities in North Platte, and MCC student life secretary Kyler Cox provided an update on happenings in McCook.
- MCC new employees Graphic Design/Visual Communications Instructor Alyssa Rippe, Agriculture Business Instructor Alyssa Rippe and Learning Commons Assistant Alisha Schwartz were introduced to the Board.
- The MCC Sports Media Club members were introduced to the Board.
- Students attending the meeting from Sheri Hink-Wagner’s Sociology/Criminal Justice class introduced themselves to the Board.
- Kirk Olsen, NPPD Board Member and Grant Flamig, NPPD Account Manager presented a $7,500 check for NPCC and a $7,500 check for MCC from their Nebraska Open Golf Tournament to be used for scholarships.
- Gail Knott, Dean of Outreach & Training and Mary Pierce, Administrator of MPCC Ogallala updated the Board about their recent success at the Skilled Trades Competition.
3. CONSENT ITEMS. On a single consent motion, the board approved:
a. Minutes from September 25 Board work session, public hearings and regular meeting
b. The preliminary Financial Report for September
4. ACTIONS REQUIRED BY LAW
- The Board approved bills for September in the amount of $4,262,527.71.
- The Board approved furniture bids for McCook’s East Campus building totaling $299,451.84
- The Board approved the electrical building bid from Steele Construction in the amount of $3,750,314.
5. REPORTS
a. Cabinet Reports: The Board heard reports from MPCC President Ryan Purdy, Vice President of Academic Affairs and NPCC Dr. Jody Tomanek, Vice President of Student Affairs and MCC Kelly Rippen, Vice President of Administrative Services Mike Steele, Director of Institutional Effectiveness Tad Pfeifer, Director of Human Resources Rebecca Wrage, and Director of Marketing & Public Information Daniel Stinman
6. CLOSED SESSION
The Board went into closed session at 7:17 p.m. to discuss negotiations. No action was taken after the Board reconvened in open session at 7:30 p.m.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Upon hearing no further business, the Board moved to adjourn at 7:30 p.m. The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in North Platte.
