The Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors will hold its annual property tax and budget hearings Wednesday, Sept. 23, followed by its regular monthly meeting at North Platte Community College’s North Campus.
The property tax hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with the budget hearing at 6:35 p.m. Both hearings will include a presentation and opportunity for public comment. The regular Board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:40 p.m. at 1101 Halligan Drive in North Platte.
During the regular meeting, the Board is expected to take action on the college’s proposed 2026-27 budget and property tax request. The proposed budget totals $63,492,004 in expenses and transfers across all funds. The Board will also consider a resolution setting its property tax request at $5,791,384.
Board members will also consider increasing the college’s base budget limitation by one percent. The proposal would carry forward $18,614,006.66 in unused budget authority from the 2025-26 fiscal year and preceding years.
Several other items are on Wednesday’s agenda. The Board will consider selecting a construction manager for the addition of the Cherry County Events Center to the Valentine Community Campus.
The Board is also being asked to approve the addition of men’s and women’s wrestling at North Platte Community College beginning with the 2027-28 academic year. If approved, wrestling would become an additional intercollegiate athletic offering at NPCC.
Construction work is also on the agenda, with the Board considering bids for drywall materials and labor for renovations to the North Campus Student Activity Center.
The meeting will begin with recognition of NPCC international students. Board members will also consider August bills totaling $1,533,859.52, the August preliminary financial report and the Mid-Plains Faculty Association negotiating team.
The Board is scheduled to enter closed session for personnel matters before adjourning.
