Residents in Ogallala have a chance to freshen up their homes and properties during City-Wide Clean-Up Week, running April 13 through April 17.

The City of Ogallala, in partnership with Western Resources Group and AlterMetal, is hosting the weeklong event to give residents a convenient way to dispose of unwanted items while also learning more about recycling and waste management.

Drop-off will take place at Western Resources Group, located at 3305 West H Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Organizers say the site will be open during business hours only, with gates closed after hours throughout the clean-up period.

Residents can bring a variety of items for disposal, including furniture, electronics, household items, metal, batteries, and recyclable materials. However, tires and regular household trash will not be accepted. Some items, such as household hazardous waste, chemicals, and paint, will be accepted onsite for a fee, while AlterMetal will accept items like refrigerators and air conditioners at its East 5th Street location, also for a fee.

Paper shredding services will be available throughout the week at a cost of 50 cents per pound, giving residents a secure option to dispose of sensitive documents.

In addition to drop-off services, the event will feature several opportunities for community engagement. Facility tours will be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., providing insight into how materials are processed. Educational workshops and giveaways will also be available throughout the week.

A Coffee Connection event is planned for Friday, April 17 from 8 to 10 a.m., which will include a 9 a.m. facility tour along with refreshments, giveaways, and educational information.

Organizers say the goal of Clean-Up Week is to help residents responsibly dispose of unwanted materials, improve the appearance of properties, and strengthen community connections.
