North Platte, Neb. - Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in any task that takes your focus off the road. Texting is the most alarming distraction. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for approximately 5 seconds. At 55 mph that is like driving the length of a football field with your eyes closed. In Nebraska in 2022, there were over three thousand drivers involved in distracted driving crashes, and in 2023, over 2400.
The North Platte Police Department will participate in a high visibility traffic enforcement campaign from April 7th through April 14, 2025, with an emphasis on offenses related to distracted driving.
