Paxton, Neb. - Multiple departments battled a grass fire in Paxton Saturday afternoon according to officials.
According to the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD), around 3:40pm (MT), county fire tones rang for a grass fire taking place at the Paxton District Railroad ROW.
EOC dispatchers reported multiple fires from MM140 to MM131. Crews observed an active grass fire when arriving on scene and noticed smoke plumes heading east towards mm 140 according to officials.
In a press release, the Keith County Departments extinguished and overhauled seven fires ranging from one to four acres in size. The fire's cause is determined to be from a westbound train with a mechanical issue. No injuries were reported.
