KEARNEY, Neb. — A small plane crash claims two lives northeast of Kearney late Wednesday.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it lost contact with the aircraft about 9:30 p.m. as the plane was headed toward Kearney Regional Airport. Its last recorded position placed it several miles north of the runway.
Search teams from multiple agencies scoured the area overnight using drones, patrol vehicles and utility terrain vehicles (UTV’s). Heavy fog forced crews to pause the operation in the early morning hours at 2 a.m. before resuming at daybreak. The wreckage was located around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Both the pilot and passenger died at the crash site.
Flight data indicated the plane departed from an airfield near Terrace, Minnesota, on Wednesday evening around 7 p.m.
