August 14, 2026 (North Platte, Neb.) — A Nebraska State Trooper suffered minor injuries Thursday evening when his patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle while the trooper was performing traffic control for a pervious crash.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. Thursday, the trooper was parked on Interstate 80 near mile marker 187. The trooper was the second in a line of three troopers moving traffic into the passing lane while tow truck operators cleaned up the previous crash.
While the trooper was sitting in his patrol vehicle, with emergency lights activated, a Buick Enclave rear-ended the trooper. The Buick came to rest in the median. The other troopers checked on the Buick driver and the injured trooper immediately. The Buick driver was not injured. The trooper was transported to Great Plains Health, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the Buick was cited for failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, open alcohol container, no registration, and no insurance. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
The previous crash involved a pickup and a semi. That crash occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. Thursday. The pickup and the semi-trailer both became engulfed with fire. The driver of the pickup was transported to Great Plains Health with minor injuries. That crash remains under investigation.
