For Immediate Release

Farm and ranch families in southwest Nebraska will have an opportunity next month to learn more about succession and estate planning during a free workshop in Curtis.
The Farm and Ranch Succession Workshop is scheduled for March 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture Welcome Center, 610 E. Sixth St. in Curtis.
The event is hosted by the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline in collaboration with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Beginning Farmer Tax Credit and Negotiations programs, Nebraska Extension and the Nebraska Farmers Union Foundation. Organizers say the workshop is designed to help agricultural producers prepare for the future of their operations and plan for a smooth transition to the next generation.
Speakers will include Weston Svoboda and Jessica Groskopf. Topics will cover key considerations in estate and succession planning, including important decisions and available planning tools. Presenters will also discuss transfer, death and tax implications, including portability, as well as the use of limited liability companies in succession planning, buy-sell agreements and asset protection.
Additional discussion will focus on options, lease rights and preemptive rights, along with financial and management issues tied to succession strategies.
“This workshop is intended to help farm and ranch families start, continue, or refine their succession and estate plans,” Groskopf said. “Planning for the future ensures a smooth transition to the next generation and protects the legacy of Nebraska’s agricultural producers.”
Refreshments will be provided by the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture.
The workshop is free to attend, but organizers ask participants to register in advance to help with planning for materials and refreshments. To register or learn more, contact the Nebraska Rural Response Hotline at 800-464-0258.
The event is supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture under agreement number FSA22CPT0012189.
